Unreachable/Unteachable

UNREACHABLE AND UNTEACHABLE STUDENTS

Every Chinese college and university has them, from top tier down to the bottom 4th tier.Usually every class has at least one and the unlucky teacher may be saddled with several. Occasionally, an entire class may be beyond reach.

No matter what the pedagogy, the methodology, the materials; there are some students who have decided that higher education is only an endurance requirement.  In America there is an educational philosophy that no child shall be left behind. China has a slightly different bent – no college student shall fail to receive a diploma so long as the tuition has been paid.

Nationally, 5% of Chinese university students are unreachable and unteachable. At Zongshan University 1.6%  of the post-graduate non-English majors are unreachable and unteachable.

Chinese students know full well that they will not be failed even if they never attend classes. They are allowed to retake a final exam, with a different teacher each time, until a teacher is found who will pass them. Failing grades issued by foreign teachers are administratively changes rather regularly. The Chinese educational system deprives the teacher of a major external motivational tool and the students take advantage of this situation.

These students are not too hard to identify. They sit in the back row and try to blend into the back wall. Some sit up front, arms crossed with a scowl on their face that says a D-8 bulldozer isn’t going to move them.

Some give themselves away by telling the foreign teacher “you do not understand China” or “you do not understand Chinese students” or “you do not teach like a Chinese teacher.”

Others will declare their open contempt for English due to some misguided nationalistic pride. Some will state that they do not need English now or in the future. A Shanghai University student declared that his father was a very high Shanghai Government party official and that his father would always take care of his future, both politically and financially. This boy was well connected and his future was assured. Within months his father was caught up in the political purge and power shift that saw all of Shanghai’s political leaders replaced. His father was imprisoned and made to forfeit all of his money and property.  The boy was weeks away from graduation and would receive a useless degree.

A young man in Guangzhou insisted that he would never need English because his father was Chairman of the Board and majority Shareholder of a major Chinese company. This boy wasted his educational opportunity in reliance on his father’s position and wealth. Within two months of the boy’s graduation his father was imprisoned for economic crimes and sentenced to death and forfeiture of all money and property.

It is sad indeed to watch any misguided student pursue a path of self-destruction. But no matter what you say or do, they are determined to serve their time at university without earning an education because they know an education (Diploma) will be handed to them as long as their tuition is paid. Educated idiots!

  • Now, as a graduate students we should know how to create our future. Though we may have few opportunities to use English in the future, we should expend a lot of energy on English learning, because it is a pre-condition for promotion. Different people have different methods to learning English, so if we share our experience and learn from each other, then we can progress faster.

Every country has his own situation. In China, exam is the only way to select the excellent students, also this is the only way for the poor to go to the upper class. However, some students do not like study, they do not cherish the opportunity, and waste a lot of time to do the useless thing. So the teachers may think they are unreachable and unteachable.Perhaps they have their own ideas.Eveyone has different grifts given by God.Sometimes the teacher also dislike them,so they will fall down from the class.Maybe the teachers and the students all should try their best.

I don’t know how to comment this essey, maybe this phenomena is too normal for us. Yes, there are really some Educated idiots in China’s universities. But some of them can live better than whom we think of no Educated idiots. This is the question of the educational cause. Not one or two persons can change, really!Facing that,I know that’s the sorrow of both the Educated idiots’and no Educated idiots’.

A student in class 18 actually made a post all in Chinese.

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

As Mao Ze dong was saying:”only the suitable the best!” The situation of China is determined to education of China. As far to me, I think our now education is more progressive than previous times. But the pace of progress is Relatively slow.As this article put it,there is the number of phenomena of corruptions in the field of education. Many of men who are power and wealth achieve their purpose that they pave road for their children by using authority and position. However, justice will always defeat evil.Criminals are eventually arrested. So we have reasons to believe that our education will be for better.

Compared to the western university, the education of Chinese university is not tuned with the need of the society. There is also a saying that what you have learned from the university is totally useless in your job. Plus, the employees in China pay too many attentions on the diploma. No wonder such things will happen in China.

As the saying goes: parents are the best teachers. Our love, sense of responsibility, independence are nurtured from childhood. But the parents loved us too much, not willing to let us be a little frustrated. We have grown up, but we are as greenhouse flower, can not withstand wind and rain. We are accustomed to rely on others, accustomed to shirk its responsibilities. What should we do? This is the problem faced by our nationality and educational institutions.

    EDITOR’S NOTE:
THIS POST IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF AN UNREACHABLE AND UNTEACHABLE.

When I was a junior school student, I found the English corner in my school, from then on I have always doubt that if it make any sense. Then, I came to senior school and university, also there are English corners, at the same time, I still can’t understanding whether it does help.
To be honest, I’m never willing to attend it, for I don’t think it can give any improvment to me. There are many ways to practice my English, and they are more efficient. I can watch movies to improve my listenning, and many other occasions can improve my oral English.
Personally, the English corners is just a style, I don’t really appreciate it. Schools are willing to show that they own such a oringplace for English study. Besides this, I can’t imagine what benefits it can provide.
So, I’d rather read aloud and chat with foreign friends than go there to do the boring Q and A.

WHY DO I ALLOW SUCH A FALSE STORY TO APPEAR? MAINLY SO YOU KNOW WHAT IS A REAL UNREACHABLE AND UNTEACHABLE STUDENT.
MORE THAN 600 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE 11-11 ENGLISH CORNER BUT MORE THAN 100 HAVE MADE UP A FALSE STORY LIKE THIS ONE.

This is the first time I go to English corner, but with bad luck, when I went to there, I found there were very few people, for the chilly wind and cold small rain. For now and then I had been here, I tried to talk to a man( he looks like not a student), but at once I realized that, he had no interesting tiling to me at all, I doubt that he was just waiting for a single girl here, and then~~~, so, I passed him over and turned to another, but as the same conditions, this guy once again refused talking to me, I was very disappointed, and then as it was going to be colder, I leaved.

I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF ALL OF YOU AND I AM STILL TRYING TO REACH THE FEW WHO RESIST.

You don’t have to be a sage to reform every unreachable and unteachable students. You should be proud of most of us. You should be proud that your students can communicate with foreigners commendably and express their fantastic ideas in English. Being a oral English teacher, it has been enough.

  • ChelseaClass16

We all know that this phenomenon is very common in our country. In China the education system does have many problems, maybe this is just our situation as a developing country. There are many educated idiots in our universities and colleges. How pathetic it is! Some students spending nearly 20 years in school only get a diploma at last. They do not master even a single skill to live themselves. So I think the pedagogy or the methodology should be improved, we should prepare students to adapt society instead of under the wings of their parents all the time.

  • Tom-class3

Because of the situation of China, the phenomena the article reminded can not be changed easyly, even though it seems inrational.

  • Miya-16

This phenomenon is very common in China. Many companies focus on the diploma at first glance in an interview, and that makes it important to get a diploma in order to get a good job although the diploma doesn’t make sense as it looks like indeed. So many students don’t want to learn these courses which are required during the school. But the results may be not so satisfactory because of several reasons. In my opinion, we should not only study these courses during the university but also some relative knowledge which is helpful to our future life, so that we can find a job which is favorable by our own ability. The phenomenon may be changed, but it will take a long time, several decades may be needed.

  • vivian5

To be honest, you are a good teacher whose high sense of responsibility and rigorous learning manner really move me.

  • Maggie class5

Well, it is a complicate issue for me. Who is unreachable and unteachable students anyway, l don’t know. Someone donnot go to class on the moring may just because they cannot get used to have classes in the moring. But if the classed are arraged in the afternoon, they will be willing to. To be honest, I really think that there is something wrong with our education system. It seems that we learn just in order to pass the exams! We need reform, but how to reform it is a question.

TWO DAYS AGO I WAS COMPELLED TO BAN ONE FROM THIS WEBSITE AND YESTERDAY HE FORCED ME TO EXPEL HIM FROM MY CLASS. DISRUPTIVE STUDENTS HAVE NO PLACE IN MY CLASSROOM.

There are many unreachable and unteachable students in China, even in top 10 universities.During my undergraduate period, I had many classmates can belong to this categery, they don’t like to study ,not only english. In their mind, learning english is no useful, for they needn’t to intercourse with the foreigners. Some others learn english just for the CET, if they pass the exam, they will throw the english books away!
Also there are many “others will declare their open contempt for English due to some misguided nationalistic pride”,but what they can contribute to our nation?Just like modern times conservative Chinese people who never considered of the things happened in the world, then fall behind to wait for be attacked? All reasons are self-justification!If we intend to enhence our country’s powder and let more countries to respect our culture, the basic condition is that we must use english to communicate with more foreigners and introduce our culture!

POST GRADS ARE NOT MATURE ADULTS? WE SHOULD WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE 40 OR 50?
STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR BAD BEHAVIOR.

I am really sorry about that. But Please don’t be too angery with them.It is a nomal phenomenon in the world.Among my classmates from primary school to university, there are always some students just like you said too. They never followed the rules their teachers and school told. They always disturbed the nomal orders of the school.Their exists are inevitable.Thank you for doing so much to us.Maybe some students of us didn’t show enough respect to you. Please forgive them because they are too young to understand why you did this. When they become a mature person, maybe they will feel sorry and understand everything. I believe finally everyone of us will understand and appreciate your responsible teaching for us one day!

  • Lucy-class13

I think this phenomenon is common in china. There is an old saying, from clogs to clogs is only there generations. These young do not cherish the things what they have but to waste it luxuriously. Of course they think their rich father will protect them in the future. But just as the article tell us, everything can change in every minute. What we young people can do is preparing ourselves for the future, only that when we grow up we can live independently without the support of our parents. I thing the problem in this article is due to that some of us are lack of the feeling of conjuncture. After the lecture I think they will know the reason.

ENGLISH IS NOT A SUBJECT TO STUDY A COUPLE OF HOURS A WEEK, IT IS SOMETHING YOU MUST LIVE 24/7.

I am sure that there are some unreachable and unteachable students in every school. But maybe it is not so many as Professor Martin thinks. There must be some communication problems and misunderstanding between them and Professor Martin. So I hope there is more tolerance between both sides.
I think speaking English well is good for our future, and HE really improves our English. These two months I am making rapid progress in oral English. When I speak English with someone else, I realize I am doing something what I dare not to do two months ago. Though I have a long way to speak fluent English, but I am proud of the achievement I have now.
I also think that Martin is a man of responsibility and has many understanding with our country. What he told us in our class is something we don’t want to accept but most of them are true in China. Of course sometimes I disagree with him, but we can have different opinions. And my comments are never deleted in the website because of disagreement.
But maybe Professor Martin is too strict and gives us too much stress. In fact, many post graduates, especially of science majors, are under great stress. So sometimes they are impatient with the homework. Maybe it is a reason for some conflicts. I hope our professor can understand us too.

  • Lucy-Class3

The situation this test has mentioned is a serious problem in China. Many reasons lead to this diseases of society such as the educational system, the personal belief, the family education and someone else.

  • Tom class15

I must admit that this is absolutely true, even though a school or a college is top-ranking over the county, but not evry student in these top-ranking schools is excelent. There are must be a few of them are bad students and some are even unreachable and unteachable. And it is a good hope that we evry student should be a good one. With there unreachable and unteachable students, what we should do is to help them as possible as we can. Not only in China, in many other countries there is also the problem that a few of students are unreachable and unteachable, this maybe ineluctability according to the current situation, but under the endeavor of all our teachers and students, I think there will be no unreachable and unteachable students one day.

  • Linda class5

Having seen the example given in the article,it makes me into deep thought, the higher education in china shortcomings to some extent,we knowing nothing about our majors before entering the university.we chose the major which we are not interesting it at all. Management system at the university is not strict either, even we can easily pass the final exam without hard working,we sat in the back row reading novel which have no relationship to the major .because the class is boring, and useless in our futuer work,it is time for us to reform the education system

  • Lily5

It would be acknowledged that every country has unteachable students. So does China . As a psychological students ,i think there are several reasons contributing to the matter. However ,I believe that every student wants to be a good student .As Maslow ,a famous psychologist, said that everyone has the spirit for self-realization. They are unteachable maybe just because the teaching style is not suitable for them . There are individual differences.

  • Michael-class two

Every student do not want to be the unreachable and unteachable student.Maybe everyone has his own life experience.Maybe the initial point of view is right. We can not ask everyone follow us .I think we should keep ourself well. Everyone has his life style.

  • Jaime_class9

I think that the person who has the ideas in the article is pitiful. The young man should learn to independence and learn hard when he is at school, then when he graduate from school he can be successful, but only dependents on his parents. Two examples can give us a few educational meaning, so we should think more about the education. Maybe there are the unreachable and unteachable students in some universities, it is aimed at this phenomenon, we should apply some measures, for example the school can offer some class to educate the students.

  • Mark Class13

From primary school to college, there always are many unreachable and unteachable students in my class. They spend their time on luxury material life and become depraved finally. Some students think their father are rich or magnifico, they can depend on their parents all their life,to get job,to buy big house,to be another magnifico and so on.Maybe they are lucky, and indeed get what they want. And they are not the few in modern China. But they can never enjoy the happiness of sucess, and not all of them are lucky.once their parents go off the stage, they will be nothing. And as time goes on,our country will pay more attention to the problem, and then they will desert by the society.

  • Tony_class9

Family Education is very important to build personality. The personality may be influence all our llife which guide me how to do and what to do .The family background also affect the personality build.
If the baby is educate by their parent ,they will not Unreachable and Unteachable person .

  • ivanclass14

Exactly Chinese students still have much space to improve. One important thing must be enhanced is no doubtedly the logical thinking. Many people tend to say to a foreigner like, “You are a foreigner. You just don’t know the Chinese situation.” Obviously the logic has some problems. Do whether one is a foreigner or not has any relations with the knowing of Chinese situation? If so, may I say that we can not discuss about America because we are not Americans. It sounds really ridiculous.

  • Vincent-class14

Many students go to universities in order to get a degree. For example, an undergraduate classmate of mine had always played games for four years. Finally he get a degree very easily, but until now he has had no work and stayed at home. So I think everyone should learn in order to expand own knowledge and stretch own capabilities, but not get a degree. Besides learning, we should also mould good personality and make ourselves become reachable students.

  • Constance Class 4

I do not know what to say about this article. Maybe students have responsibilities for this because they do not learn knowledge with heart, they just have to do it. And teachers have to take some responsibility for this, because maybe their teaching is not so interesting. But it is really hard to make every student interested in the course, because everyone is different.

  • Shirney Class7

This phenomenon is common in China. As we all know, there are many problems in China’s education system. When we was a child, we were told to study hard. Many of us don’t study for our interests, but for our future. So what we study are often not what we like, we are just forced to study hard for the college entrance examination and our future good jobs. However, this education system restrain our capacities and it seems not applicable to the society. Our studying in the university is just like living in Lvory Tower which is not very open to outside world. Although there are so many problems in our education system, it is hard to change because of long history and our developing economy.

  • Shirley2_class4

Those unreachable and unteahchable students may do harm to our educational system, even eventually ruin it. They know Chinese educated idiots and they make use of these idiots to live a comfortable and lazy life. And they still can get a so-so score which allow them to go on their study. They dispossess valuable educative resources. Also, they impair those working-hard students’ enthusiasm. I know some friends changing from working hard to being lazy. At the beginning, they studied hard and read a lot. They tried their best to broaden their horizon. However, the exam was made for most students including those who didn’t concentrate on study. And the scores could not reflect real talents and efforts. Those talented and diligent students could not receive appropriate awards. They were frustrated and lost their faith. Then they began to find some “clever” way to perfunctorily deal with homework, classes, exams and eventually their future and life. So the exam system should be improved to distinguish those talented and diligent students and award them properly. In this way, students can be encouraged to release their potential abilities.

  • Jocelyn class 18

There are unreachable and unteachable students all over the world. They are conceited and treacherous. I think you are trying to make such students in your classes reachable and teachable. But do you know that someone is obstinate? So there is no need to let everyone accept your kindness.Take it easy.

  • Sam class 17

I agree that there are always several students that don’t think as the same as the teacher does in every class. They have their own views and values. They firmly believe what they think is right and appropriate. So it’s not an easy job to change their minds. I mean, everyone has the right to hold what they believe. If you have tried to reach them, though not succeed, it means you’ve made your effort. There’s no need raging, just relax. That will be enough. At least, most of our students appreciate your effort.

  • Helen class 18

Just as the old thing goes, there are many kinds of birds in a big woods. I think western universities also have unreachable and unteachable students not just in china. As every college has so many students , it is inevitable that a few students are unreachable and unteachable. With there unreachable and unteachable students, what we should do is to help them as possible as we can. College can improve the exam system to distinguish those talented and diligent students and award them properly. If teachers have already try there best but still couldn’t change them , there is no choice but to give up them. Most of students in college are reachable and teachable, teacher may pay more attention to them just ignore the unreachable and unteachable students.

  • Zoe class2

To be honest, Professor Martin Wolff is a responsible teacher, but I can’t agree with all what you said in the article. I must admit that I am a good student in traditional way, just as you said I belong to the reachable and teachable students. From primary school to now, I accept the thought if I want to be success, I must be a good student. But sometimes I am hesitating; I think I lost myself in those years. Everyone is different when he/she born. But after accepting education, we have been the products of the production line. I agree with you that everyone must honest and make his/her life by himself/herself, because anything is possible in future, but I think different ideas are more important. So please try to understand those students who have different ideas from your.

  • peter class1

Mr. Wolff has just told us some truth of chinese’ university education. Our chinese usually say that universities in china is hard to get in but more easy to get out, oppositing to other countries. Owing to this reason, maybe, students who have got the offers of universities will completely relaxing themselves. So many of them would failed more than one courses. Many of them won’t get their diplomas. Enve those who have got their diplomas are also not competent on their future jobs. But the enviroment in China is like this. Nobody can change it in a short time. Chinese must do everythings they can do to educate their next gneration to do better, telling them the importance of studying and they should be capable of their future jobs. But will this be achieved if our generation cannot do like that?

  • Shelly class O2

No matter how hard you try, there are still some students unreachable and unteachable. But the lucky thing is that those people are few. Most of the students know the true meaning of having a further education. We learn for ourselves. We do that to pursue our dreams. Some unreachable and unteachable people will become reachable and teachable when they find out what lives they want to live. Nobody can take care of us all the time. When those people run into troubles, they will feel regretful for wasting time.

  • Stacy-Class2

In my memory, there were two groups of students when I was in primary school, one group was good students who did well in their studies and another was bad students who were intractable and always got bad grades. Teachers always like good students and take less attention to bad students. I think it is not good for the students, especially the bad students, because they are not really bad, they are just not so good at study and exams, and they are also educable and changeable. The unteachable and unreachable students are really “bad” students who make teachers headache. There really exist such students, they do not take responsibility for themselves, as the article above mentioned. There have many reasons, maybe they have not realized that study is important, or they are not interested in their major and so on. But, anyway, they are their own choices, someday they will know whether they are right or wrong.
To tell the truth, I have learnt a lot from oral English classes, not only the academic knowledge but also varieties of others. As students, we should hold accountable for ourselves’ actions, make full use of time and learn more when we are in university, do not let ourselves become unreachable and unteachable students and make less troubles for our teachers.

    FIRST TIME IN 8 YEARS

Andy Zhang Class 14 has been expelled from Holistic English and will not be allowed to return to my classroom under any circumstances.

Andy has engaged in disrespectful, discourteous and disruptive conduct. He submitted posts that were rejected and rather than attempt to discuss the reasons for rejection, Andy chose to launch a verbal attack on me through an exchange of emails. Andy also violated my class rules and disobeyed three direct requests to stop speaking Chinese in my classroom.

When this matter was brought to Dean Wang’s attention, Andy chose to make excuses and justifications for his bad behavior and launch another personal attack against me. Andy found no relief from Dean Wang.

Now I am informed that Andy is using the SYSU intranet to garner support and incite students against me.

I have 700 post-grad students this term and Andy is the only one banned from my web site and expelled from my class.

Andy is unreachable and unteachable but he will not be allowed to cause any further disturbance or disruption in HEL.

I sincerely wish that Andy were mature enough to have handled this situation differently.

EDITOR’S NOTE: ARE YOU AN UNREACHABLE AND UNTEACHABLE STUDENT? EXACTLY WHICH CLASSICS CONTAIN STANDARD ENGLISH? SHAKESPEARE? YOU REALLY NEED TO OPEN YOUR EARS TO HEAR. THERE IS NO STANDARD ENGLISH. IF YOU WALK AROUND SPEAKING ENGLISH FROM ANY OF THE CLASSICS, NO ONE IS GOING TO UNDERSTAND YOU. ENGLISH IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING.

AND YOU ARE DETERMINED TO “MASTER” ORAL ENGLISH? EITHER YOU DID NOT ATTEND THE ORIENTATION LECTURE, OR YOU SLEPT THROUGH IT, OR YOU ARE SO ARROGANT YOU DO NOT EVEN NEED TO ATTEND MY CLASS EVER AGAIN. I HAVE NO PATIENCE FOR YOUR TYPE.

YOU ALSO FAILED TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS SO I AM GOING TO EDIT YOUR POST IN THE HOPE THAT YOU WILL DROP YOUR ARROGANCE AND START LEARNING.

Frankly I only mind learning standard English, which is almost opposed to Mr Wolf’s viewpoint. That is just because I intend to be devoted to scholorship scholarship of classics and to take it as my way of life. To me standard English means great authors’ writings including works in various spheres. Ture True civilization is written, not spoken. It is to say that the essential vitality and dignity of such major languages as english English consist in their great literatures literature in the wide sense of this term. It is possible that I cannot soon master orally communicating in english English before I concentrate on spicific training about this, but it does not matter since such a training is relatively easy and I will never be unhappy if I do not understand every word of native speakers of english English.

YOU WERE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO WITHDRAW OR CORRECT THIS POST BUT YOUR ONLY REPLY WAS A DENIAL THAT YOU ARE ARROGANT. YOU ALSO CRITICIZED ME FOR SHOWING YOUR MISTAKES TO YOUR CLASSMATES. NOW THEY ARE KNOWN TO THE WORLD.

There is an old saying “Plans can never catch up the changes.” Once I had considered that I would not go to find a job in a foreign company, so my so-so English was enough. But there must be a coincidence for me to be an intern of Citi Bank in Guangzhou. When I worked there, I regretted not learning my English well. It was hard for me to follow my manager or just read her email to me. Now I quite understand the meaning of unteachable, and I don’t want to be a student like that anymore. I think I should learn it by heart but not so-so.

Mark will not be with us much longer.

Dear Martin, I sincerely apologize for the comment I had posted tonight. You can distrust me, but the truth is I had drunk a lot before I read the article, and anticipated you would quickly delete my hasty comment as a meaningless scrawl. When I was drunk, I thought you knew I was drunk and the comment was a joke, improper though. Drunk is not the excuse for my irresponsible behavior tonight. As an adult, I know I cannot shift the responsibility onto others or even alcohol, and should take all of it, no matter whether I was sober or drunk.
I have constantly logged in the holistic English website and posted my comments on the threads,( of course, all of my comments except this one are the result of my careful, sober pondering, diligently. And only they can prove and match my status as a college student and a adult man.
I think I made the mistake tonight partly because I had not fully understood the rules of you. Man errs as he strives. It’s my fault tonight but at least now I know the rules and what is the acceptable and unacceptable behavior. And hopefully my classmates in Class 3 would be all conscious of it. That’s the good side of this event, I hope. Lingnan students are the smartest in Zhongshan University, not only academically, but also emotionally, they only break your rules when they are unconscious of them. Now that I know what I am supposed to do, I will obey it and I hope I can have the chance to obey it, as I have learned about it. In schools worldwide, punishment is a tool of letting students know what is allowed and what is not and helping them disciplined. Your email tonight is a warning and it works.
Unlike some other foreign teachers who earn salaries just because they speak English, you are devoted to creating an English speaking environment for us and have changed many’s attitude toward English study, which I think is a great effort and accomplishment. I have always appreciated and admired you for all you have done for us.
Now I know I should comment the threads on the website carefully and never post any irresponsible stuff on it, and never comment drunk. I wrote the one sentence comment just to joke, not out of any offensive intention. If I am expelled out of ignorance or improper joke, I think it’s a little too severe and unfair to me.
Anyway, tonight is all my bad. If my unsuitable comment brought you any unpleasure and made you feel any offensive, I would like to apologize to you sincerely.
Dear Martin, would you give me a short reply to tell me whether you can spare me or what I should do to compensate? I will appreciate that much. Thanks!

Time is now very precious to us ,we should study more knowledge when we are young.
Since entering university , no matter what course ,we should study hard .It is very important to us. We are already adults when we go to college ,we need to do in the future plans for us and should not be expected to depend on our father or mother. When the ever-changing world, no one could guarantee that our future is good or bad. Perhaps you have a smart family ,perhaps waiting for you out of school, you home has collapsed. We have grown up ,why we are still living under the shelter of our parents. Many Chinese students have this idea. I also had this thought ,but when I know I am a adult ,not a child ,I must overcome any difficulty by myself.
In the university, not only can learn the knowledge, they can learn ways in life, why not treasure universities a chance? Many villages have no money to students because their families are unable to attend. It is a very regrettable thing. If we have the opportunity to learn, but we neglect our opportunities, then it is a sad thing.

The phenomenon described in this article has partly reflects what is going wrong in today’s education system in china, which is rooted in the social environment. With the increasing of the number of college students in china’s campus, teaching resources such as teachers are distributed among students, which in response caused to the decline of the quality of teaching. Although I quite with what is stick to in America’s value of education, I can even understand why Chinese teachers think some students unreachable and why Chinese students think diploma is assured once tuition has been paid. Education in china has become a certain kind of move between different social positions for some people, which can be easily handed down from their parents for a few people called rich second generation. It is more than a problem of education. Further measures should be taken and more attention should be paid to the equity of social wealth distribution.

I was born in the countryside. My family isn’t a rich one. Though my parents have some difficulties in affording me lots of money, I never envy those classmates whose family is rich.In fact,I really appreciate and love my parents. When I was a child , my parents always told me that knowledge can change one’s life. They encouraged me to work hard. Whenever I got the chance to study , I treasured it very much . I believe in chance ,but I know it for clearly that ability is very important. In this society, the competition is extremely fierce. The only way for us to succeed in the competition is to strengthen ourselves. We should rely on ourselves, not others.

As mature adult,post-graduate students should know what they want, why they are here, taking difficult courses other than enjoying their free time, what they need to achieve their goals.Once we did,we may not be misguided.

The education of China indeed exsits many shortcomings. But it is decided by China’s basic condition and it is not easy to change. Maybe no better one can replace it in China. The phenomenon which the autor has mentioned is becoming accustomed to us. We won’t feel confound when we meet things like that. Although it is unfair, what we can do is endure. Because this phenomenon can not be changed by one’s power alone.

It is not good for the young to depend on parents; after all, no one will take care of you for your whole life. In other countries, students are encouraged to be independent. They may do some jobs after class to earn their intuition, and people respect this kind of person.
Making a living in the future is only one purpose of learning in the university, we should try to improve ourselves in different respects and be a welcome person.
