I agree that the way of expressing our opinions should be polite. Everyone has his own idea about what he reads and thinks and different person has different view, but we should take responsibility for our comments. So we can hold different opinion as well as express in a polite way.

Be polite is the basic of a civilized person . Chinese have the good manners to other people and as a Intellectual we must be a model of other people. Whenever we disagree others , we can’t interrupt his or her words without permission. And use crude, vulgar, insulting language can never be used because it’s no use at all except show your rude. That’s very serious problem. Good manner is always good .

There is an old saying in China when translated literally is, “You don’t need to be loud to be listened to, only if you are reasonable”. Everybody has the right to express his ideas and you will be agreed on if your opinion is worth. Nowadays, people are getting more and more intolerable to disagreements. I think the only reason is that people are more and more anxious in seeking approval to make sure that he is a valuable human being in the world. We can not really blame them for this, for it is really easy to lose your identity in such a fast changing world.

  • I support to Professor Martin’s views. Everyone is equal, so it is our freedom that we could hold our own opinion individually and it is illegal that someone enforces his/her own ideas to others. I strongly despise someone who does harm to others by talking rubbish or threatening because it is too silly to do that. It is of my opinion that whatever you are accepted or not, as civilized people we should respect other people’s choices.

After read the article,I thought a lot about it .Everyone has human rights .Everyone has right to tell others what his or her opinion is .But the right is different from the personal attack .The right can make to listen to some different voices .It can enlarge our field of knowledge .Personal attack can hurt us only .It can make everyone uncomfortable and painful .We must reject it .

It is a common phenomenon that some students lack of politeness and do not show regard for others, although respecting others is a tradition of Chinese people. As graduate students, we should realize that respect others is much more important, because it is said that: he that respect not is not respect. What’s more it is student obligation to respect for teachers, since teachers teach us so hardly. As professor Martin said above, we should be civilized in everything we write, only in this way can we create a harmonious and friendly learning environment.

I think you are right.Everyone has the right to say anything but not include crude words which will slander other one.It is just like the old said, I do not approve your viewpoint, but I guard the right which you speak .

  • Shirney Class7

I agree with you.Being polite is a virtue for everyone. When do not make agreement about something,we could not use crude words to others.

As a colleague student, to be polite is the most basic quality one needs. It is the right for everyone to express what he or she wants to say. So, you can disagree or object, but it is not to say that you can insult or slang someone who has the opposite ideas. Therefore, if you have different opinions, express them in a civilized way.

  • In my opinion, using those Vulgar and profane language is just a way to express you anger. When we hate someone seriously bout we could do nothing to make the situation better, many and many people will choose this way to make them feel better. Sometimes,it’s not easy to control our emotion. Of course,as graduated students, they should try another useful, and civilized ways, without using those rude words or act as a rude person. We can express our opinion and different points, but civilized and elegant language and manner should be chosen, and always reject personal attacks.

I agree with Professor Martin’s opinion. Things have multi-faceted in nature. There is difficult for a person to fully understand a thing. So it is important for us to learn from other people’s views and share with others. With reform and open in China, people now get the right to free speech a free press. But it doesn’t means we can attack personalities and use crude language, when our ideas are different from others. We can’t ensure our opinions are absolute right, or others are absolute wrong. Sometimes, we need debate. But we should be a civilized person, courteous and respectful to express our opinions to others. Only in this way, can we establish a healthy freedom of speech environment.

Expressing views in a polite way is the basic virtue in every country. You can tell us your opinions, thoughts and suggestions, but not giving the personal attack. It’s welcomed to listen to different voices, in this way, we can make the work go more smoothly. The method we choose to deliver our ideas and advice is very important to get the respect and appreciation of the acceptor. Also, that won’t raise the issue of incivility and impoliteness. Thinking about matters in an objective way and being rational will lead us to much better communicate with others. Conflicts can be avoided. Opinions are extremely favorable, but should be conveyed in the appropriate way.

Everyone has right to express his or her personal opinion. It’s common that different people have different ideas and we may don’t agree with him (her). However we should express it in a right way . Sounds great does not mean that makes sense. When we express our pinion we should considered others feeling and speak in a civilized way. We are highly educated. We know what we should say and what shouldn’t say. Now China has opened to the world , more and more foreigners come in China . We may encounter them at any time .In these cases, we are not only on our own behalf, but also represent our country. Everyone doesn’t want to be look down on others .So we must speak respectfully to prohibit this.

I agree with Matin’s view. Every people has the right to express his opinion, but it doesn’t mean that he can speak everything he wants. Sometimes some people’s opinions are quite different from yours. You think they are wrong or even ridiculous. You can object them in a right way. To say something vulgar, profane or insulting won’t make others respect you. It will make you known as a vulgar people. If you have different opinions, just try to express them in a civilized way. And most of the Chinese are polite and don’t lose Chinese’s faces by being impolite.

There are two completely the same in the world, so different thoughts and views, different actions and different feelings are produced. Everybody has the right to express their opinions freely, but don’t forget the precondition that is one can’t hurt others. It is a basic requirement for a civilized man to respect others, especially our teachers. Debates are welcomed by using polite words and any crude or threatening language should be eliminated. A person who doesn’t know how to esteem others is also looked down on by others.
