It is interesting. But I am not interested in the western holiday.Because we don’t have the habit and culture. We have so many holidays in the every month. So the western holidays are only some knowledges for me.

It is surprised to know that Jesus Christ died and came back to life. Unbelievable! However, our teachers always tell us to understand other countries’ culture. We can benefit from holding a tolerant attitude to other cultures. In other word, learning about other culture enables us to broaden our visions. What’s more, it is helpful for us to make friends from different countries.

I’ve heard about the Easter story before, and i was wondering how can the Christian be so optimistic to celebrate this holiday. After see the more detailed introduction to this holiday,it seems to be more clear for me to understand their feeling.”Easter is the celebration of the death and coming of life again of Jesus Christ.”In all things, it’s better hope than to despair.

If I chat with people,I can say more about than before.Bcause of understanding ,we can reduce the conflict when communicating with foreigners. Because of understanging ,we will respect what the respect for and we can get used to the life style more easily.

Before I reading the link,I Knew nothing about Easter.Of course,I’ve never had my Easter days.I think It’s funny because you will eat some food during the time and have a long holiday with your family which is many people’s dream. But I think it’s also a complicate festival because the date is not fixed.

I have known more about Easter Day after visiting the website, such as Easter egg and its further meaning, the background of Easter festival, the importance of Easter for Chirstians and so on.This year Easter Day is on 4 April 2010,happy Easter Day to Chirstians!

I have heard about the Easter before, but I am surprised that they call the day on which Jesus was crucified as “Good Friday”. Why it’s “Good” when the son of God was killed by human beings? According to the introduction, “Good Friday” may be derived from “God’s Friday”, and it is “good” because the barrier of sin was broken. I don’t understand why. In my view, killing the son of God should regarded as committing more sin.

I have known of some holidays in the western world, but I known very little about the stories of these holidays. That website let me know more knowledge about the Easter. Though I am not a Christian, I think it would be helpful for us to understand some cultures of this religion. People commemorate Jesus in Easter day, and Jesus is viewed as the saviors in the Christendom. If we do not know the story, maybe we might do something improper offending people from different cultures.

EDITOR’S NOTE: YOUR POSTS ARE SHALLOW AND NEVER CONVINCE ME THAT YOU HAVE REALLY READ THE THREAD.

With pressure from work and duty becoming more and more gradually, people are eager for holidays to have a rest. So nowadays many chinese people after traditional festival want to have west festival too, the same as this phenomenon, the western people also have some chinese traditional holidays.

The origin of Easter is to celebrate the death and rebirth of Jesus Christ. It’s a happy holiday and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs. In China, we have a similar holiday to memorize family Passovers. It’s called Tomb-sweeping Day (also named Qingming Day) and origins from commemorating the ancient poet Qv Yuan. Although Easter day and Tomb-sweeping Day have similar origins, the ways that the westerners and Chinese celebrate the holiday are quite different. In this day, families go outside and enjoy the green scenery of springtime and also prepare flowers or food to the graves of departed ones, while in Easter Day, families tend to make turkeys and give eggs and candies, especially to kids.

I know only a little about Easter before reading the story, maybe each festival has a story behind it.This website not only tell us something about Easter, but also some other western festivals, for example, All Saints Day,Christmas Day,Boxing Day,and so on,it provide us a good way to understand foreign cultures.

Well, I think that Easter is a joyous occasion because it means Christ’s victory over death. Maybe it is the most important feast of the Christian year. However, before I visit the website, I can’t relate it with the last supper leading to the Eucharist and the day on which Jesus was crucified. On Easter Day, the coloring eggs is a symbol of resurrection, representing the emergence of Christ from his tomb to everlasting life. The eggs are brought by the Easter bunny, which I have never known. However, the Easter story is a sad story that the Jesus was crucified.

  • Gina Class 15C

When it comes to Easter, the only thing appeared in my mind is the colorful eggs, before viewing the Web page about Easter. But now I know the meaning of Easter, which is for celebrate of the coming back of Jesus Christ. It’s a religion story which has sad plot and happy ending. What’s more, I found the story of the Easter bunny and eggs. It’s very interesting.

The first time I heard the festival of Easter was three years ago when I was a sophomore, my English teacher who had studied in America for many years introduced the festival to us. According to her, we known that the Easter was to celebrate the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ. It is a very important day for Christian. There are some interesting custom on that day. People may send eggs which are painted in bright colors to give them further meanings to friends as a gift. On that day, Christians will gather together to hold some activities such as which was said on the internet.
“Christians gather together on Easter Sunday for a Sunrise Service. This service takes place on a hill side so everyone can see the sun rise.
Some Christians take part in an Easter vigil, lighting a new fire outside the church early on Sunday morning. The Paschal candle, decorated with studs to celebrate Christ’s wounds, may be lit from the fire and carried into the church where it is used to light the candles of the worshippers. The Easter Eucharist is a particularly joyful service. It is a popular time for baptisms and renewal of baptism vows.”

Easter is a Christian festival. Before I read this article, I had little knowledge about this festival. And from the paper, I find the Easter eggs are funny. And it has a wonderful meaning, the new life. I like the Easter eggs very much, although I do not own any Easter eggs. Thank you for sharing such a good story with us! It is great!

  • Erica Class3C

There are always some interesting stories about western holidays. The story of ester is encouraging and moving. The ester food seems delicious. And the egg rolling games looks so funny that I wish I could take part in such games. The ester eggs are so beautiful too. By the way, the easter eggs and candies Prof Martin gave us yesterday are my first easter present, and I really appreciate it.Thank you for all you have done for us.

  • Bob Class 15C

If we say Christmas, similar to the Chinese New Year, then Easter would be similar in Tomb-sweeping Day. Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus, while the Tomb-sweeping Day is the Chinese people to commemorate deceased ancestors. Coincidentally, the two festivals are both in April. This is very interesting.

  • Gunther Class 5C

I’ve heard about the Easter story before. I haven’t talk about religion with foreigners. But I like reading books about Jesus. Jesus is a notable man and a great prophet. But I still don’t understand Christian. There are many regional massacres in the history of human beings. We should learn more from tolerance.

  • Kris Class 4C

Every country has some interesting customs and I think what the difference between the West and China is most of our custom is not related with God or his son. For example, Dragon Boat Festival is created to commemorate a man called QuYuan and Mid-Autumn Day is established just because that day is in the middle of autumn.

  • Connie Class12C

I know little about Easter except Easter egg. Maybe, it’s a holiday in west just like our traditional festivals. By reading the materials on the web site, I know more about it such as the history and traditional food. Thank you for the introduction as well as the candies and eggs in the class.

It is surprised that followed Easter Sunday comes a Chinese festival: Tomb-sweeping Day. And we share the same holiday on Monday with British people. For Tomb-sweeping Day always falls on 15th day after vernal equinox and Easter day always falls on the first Sunday following the Full Moon after 21st March, there must be a big number of opportunities that the two festivals meet nearly. The fact make me guess the two share the same meanings, maybe the meanings are death, renascence and greeting spring which are easily understood from nature without mystery. After doing some searching, I find Christians must hate Jews a lot for they describe Easter Day as “first Sunday following the Full Moon after 21st March” instead of “first Sunday following the first day of Passover” or “first Sunday following 15th Nisan” (Nisan is 1st month in Jewish ecclesiastical calendar) which is more simpler and easier to understand. And English Christians even prefer to choose “Easter”, a paganish goddess’s name, to be the name of that day rather than “Passover” just like what has named in Greek, Latin, Italian, French or Spanish.

Jesus is sentenced to death which is not as a result of committing a crime. He just atones for the ordinary peoples. So, when Jesus rebirths, he has accomplished his mission for the public. He is a holy new life. People who committed should believe in and repent to Jesus in order to be forgiven. Further more, people who sincerely believe in and repent to Jesus can get a happy life. Easter Day offers us an opportunity to confess and correct. It’s the most typical trait of western countries. But in China, it appears there is not a tradition for confessing or thanksgiving (at the same time, western countries has Thanksgiving Day ).That is what Chinese lacking of. So, in my opinion , we should learn that form the west.

I haven’t understand why we have boiled eggs in Professor Martin’s class this week until I read the introduction about Easter. And the hare on the table is also lovely (the only difference is that it could not lay eggs! Ha Ha!) The way people celebrate Easter is also interesting. Most importantly, I’d like to extend heartfelt thanks to Professor Martin for the special Easter you prepared for us!

  • Erick Class6C

Frankly speaking, I’ve known little about Easter but the Resurrection and the Easter eggs. After reading these articles, I’m surprised to know that there are so many interesting activities at Easter, such as Sunrise Service and Hare Pie Scramble. Thanks for providing us with so much information. I really hope I can have a chance to experience the great occasion of Easter.

  • Fion Class 1C

The story about easter is interesting thought I have read it before. When I read it at the second time, I’m also moved by it. I think Judas is so evil-minded. He is a totally betrayer. We shouldn’t learn from he. On the other hand, Jesus is so nice. He want to rescue the people all the time. We should learn from he. We should help others as he does.
I think easter is necessary because we should commemorate him. In china, we have a holiday called the dragon boat festival. It is seted to commemorate Qu Yuan, a loyal minister. I think the basic meaning in both festival is the same.

  • Jake Class 11C

Each culture has a long history, not only in China but also in foreign. Holiday, the part of the culture, always originated form some people or some event. Easter is the celebration of the death and coming of life again of Jesus Christ. In fact, China also have the similarly ceremony after someone death. Specially, when the important person died, so many relatives and friends or others will come to say goodbye! This is one way to express our respect to the dead. But we are so rational aware that it is impossible to wait someone can relive. Of course, in west people believe that God exist in our soul. So religious is very important to their lives. In their culture, every one have sins when he/she born. But in China we have no religious.

  • Tina Class 1C

After visiting the website, I realized why professor gave us eggs in the class. I have never known the stories of Easter. I think it is very helpful to understand the western culture by knowing their festival.

  • Evelyn Class 6C

Easter is so hot in the west, the religious connection of which has gradually faded, leaving only scattered symbols of resurrection like dyed eggs, fresh lilies and little bunnies, and a merry time of games involving family participation. Though the tradition has undergone a routine way of celebration as we feel it, it’d be super good to drag you out of the dim chamber and let a gentle gust of breeze kiss your cheek on the green, where laughter abounds. Then everybody revives. Another thing here, Easter isn’t one among many holidays like Christmas or Valentine that’s actually been madly celebrated in the east, and the reason’s quite simple, as I ponder – it’s just not that easy to follow a religion, basically Easter is all about Jesus Christ and the Christianity.

  • Vivian Class1C

I have heard Easter, but I am not familiar with it before I visit the web site. I am surprised that having eggs at Easter celebrates new life. At the same time, I learn that there are so many interesting sports, such as egg rolling. How popular! Well, I think every festival has its own culture and background, it is meaningful for us to understand them before we celebrate.

  • kitty ZSTU 2

I have heard of Easter, but I do not know its origin and meaning. What’s more interesting is that every time I hear Easter, I will think of Easter Island, I do not know what links between both two. Until today I saw this article, I know Easter was a Christmas holiday which for the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ.

  • Tom ZSTU 2

Easter commemorate Jesus raised, also is the most important festival to Christianity. Although Jesus was crucified like a criminal, he died not because he was guilty, but according to God’s plan for world redemption. Now he is risen from the dead, said he successfully for our sin.

I have known the Easter before and I quite like the Easter eggs that they are so beautiful. And I think it is a great festival to children because they can get a lot of candies from neighborhood. And now after reading the article, I know much more about the Easter. And I think it is really meaningful.

  • Daisy6

In recent years , more and more Chinese celebrate Christmas , especially in universities . When Christmas is coming , extravagant decoration of it throughout every corner . Most of them celebrate it having nothing to do with Christian Festival . It is really funny . Besides , none of them celebrate Easter which is as important as Christmas for Christians . Both of these two holidays are for Jesus`s birth . The former is Jesus`s birth and the latter is Jesus`s rebirth .Jesus came back to life again on Easter Sunday after the Good Friday. What a beautiful story ! Getting oneself from misery situation and eventually survived is a kind of mental power to encourage oneself to be optimistic! The new beginning is over there following by each time of your rebirth.

I‘ve seen a movie about the Easter named Hop. In the movie, a little hare lived on the Easter Island escaped for Hollywood and dreamed to be a drummer. But a military coup took place back home and the chief of the chickens was going to kill the little bunny’s father. With the help of a young man, the bunny returned home and saved all the other hares, and in the end he bacame the Easter Bunny. It is the movie that makes me interested in the Easter Holiday.

  • Nicole-5

I’m not a christian, but I appriciate the stories or legends about Jesus very much. It’s a kind of belief in the eyes of christians. So these holidays such as Chrismas and the Easter are very important in western countries, where there are quite a lot of christians.Nowadays many Chinese have become christians,so they also like to celebrate these holidays. But many Chinese youths start to do some celebrations on these holidays.Maybe it’s just the result of gradual opening of China, not only the opening of economy, but also the opening of culture.

My birthday is April 8. I remember when I was at primary school (grade 3 or 4) my mother bought me a birthday cake with words “Happy Easter day”. Since then I know Easter day.:)
