“We have stated on many occasions that China’s economy may approach the level of the developed countries by the centenary of the founding of the People’s Republic”, the Chinese government says. From my point of view, I hope the gap between the rich and poor, cities and countryside will be narrowed. The relations between the populace and official will be harmonious. Chinese people can choose their own style of life rather than existence.
Life is meant to be lived after all, not just survived. I hope after 50 years, the Chinese people can feel the true meaning of life.

  • kendra class 4c

Ten years are not enough for China to grow up completely, maybe fifty years are enough. It is great feeling to think what will our country be like in that time. Maybe China will be one of the most powerful countries to all aspects, not only for cultural, area and number of people but also for the economy, military and politic. Prospect from the detail aspects, maybe all cities of our country will own their subway in that time; and our countryside will also developed very well, there are no farmer who can not support his family; the crop management will improve at a large level; the education level has been greatly improved too. The last but not the least is that there are enough preparation and feasible methods for all kinds of sudden social problems.

Firstly, I love my country and I’m proud of it. As we can all see, China is developing faster and faster, not only in economic, but also in politic and society. Of course there is still large for it to improve. In the next 10 or 15 years, I hope China show a better look. The gap between the riches and the poor will become very little, there will be no vagabonds and homelessness, all the children can go to school, the people of the west become rich and more knowledgable, and so on. All in all, I wish China become richer, stronger, and more harmonious.

I think it will be a long time for China to be a developed country.Though China gain very rapid growing rate, there many problems remain to be solved. I hope in the next 10 or 50 years, the gap between poor and rich can be narrowed, and people are free to live where he wants.

  • Anna Class 10C

I think our country will become more and more flourish and harmony. From the acient history China is a powerful country known as eastern lion. So when chinese people unite together, any difficulties are not problems. After 10 or 50 years progress, I do believe China would become a developed country.

  • Shaw Class9C

I have doubted about the meaning of my life recently. Everyday I get up before 8 and then spend the whole day on my academic work.
But still, I can get some news about what is happening outside. In west China and some parts in middle, people are undergoing a drought, while in Shanghai, the World Expo is coming soon. China is at a glorious time, but China is also in a miserable time. This is the first time I think communism maybe a good thing. At least, if not distorted by some politicians, it might destroy the wealth gap. So what do I want China to be like in the future? I want it to be more humanistic that people could share equally, but not the rich become richer and poor goes poorer. A good world doesn’t depend on how rich it is, but the living standard of people.
So about my self-doubting, I cannot figure out the meaning of academy. Could I help people out of their wretched life by reading Plato and Aristotles? (Rousseau may has a little help but definitely not the Greeks.) When I become a scholar years later, if I could, what can I do for the old woman who begs in front of the hospital and the baby girl lies beside her, everyday no matter what the weather is. It hurts me when I saw people in mournful condition.
I want a better world, not just China, but the whole world, in which there will be less suffering.

  • Tie Class1C

No war,no hunger,no poverty.Everyone have the right to vote our government leaders.Children can go to school in free, and have the right go to college equally. They can choose the major only for interests. In a word, everyone can feel safe.

  • tod class 3c

I hope Chinese government become more efficient in their affairs. People in china get richer and richer. The qualities of people may be improved. The most important health care reform should be done as soon as possible. I believe china will become stronger.

  • Amber Class 15C

As a Chinese people,it’s my dream that my country will become more and more flourish and strong. The change of world is quickly,so I could not forecast the world’s future.I think that it’s the best to solve something ungent at once.Deed something well today is the best pledge to tomorrow.

EDITOR’S NOTE: CHINA IS ALSO GROWING UP “by carful and fine caring from a mother who will protect him to ensure his safely growing.” THE CCP IS THE MOTHER OF THE MOTHERLAND.

People like to compare the developing stage of a country to the growing stage of a baby, however, the baby is growing up by carful and fine caring from a mother who will protect him to ensure his safely growing, while the country is developing in the a more and more competitive international environment and has to take precautions against any unknown threats. These obvious difference point out the core of the international interaction and relationship. China is a developing country, the most big one in the world, and it is growing quickly, unequally and continually in the near future. It will become more and more powerful in the present economic structure with its huge development at the same speed every year, which may change the present structure certainly in the near future, however, china has its own inevitable problem. If china cann’t restructure its economy during the fast development, its huge economic energy will to some extent be diminished by the increasingly growing gap between income, which may at last cause other successive social problems.

  • Lisa Class 10C

It’s hard to say, I believe every body has their opinions, the experts on criminal, commerce, politics, society, or something else all have their expert advices. But if you asked me, I think harmony is most important. It is very complicated to explain what harmony is. In my idea, it should be an amicable and mutual understanding relationship between countries; a friendly and cherished relationship among peoples; improved living conditions for every body. It a dream or not, after this generations’ hard work, we will know.

  • Anna Class 5C

Economic development, of course has been considered the most dominant progress that has ever made in the past twenty years, and would definately be the focus in the near future. However, the spiritual outlook, the desire for democracy, the fairness of the whole society, the care for the weak and poor, the mutual benefits of the people… the combination of which depicts the dreamy future of china in the near future, which obviously deserve the endeaver of us all!

  • Kevin Class 15C

It’s difficult to predict what will China be like after 10 years and after 50 years. China will still be a developing country in 10 years and may grow up in 50 years. I hope China can focus more on individual’s welfare rather than the GDP. I hope that in 50 years, it will not be difficult for sick people to get medical care, it will be easier for university students to start up their first business, the gap between the urban and rural district will be narrowed and people are more open-minded to accept things and become more creative. I also wish that there’re fewer pollutions of the rivers, the lands and the forest, and we can all enjoy fresh air on every pleasing weekend. People have better living standard and live longer.

  • Anna Class 4C

There is no doult that china will be more developted nomatter in 10 years or 50 years. But,what i only hope that china will be a harmony country as its economics is devrloping faster.Recently,i always heard of news of drought in yunnan.I feel so sad when I see many pictures to reflect how people take water in puddles where are far from their home.I expect that there will no poor,no hunger,no crime or terrible things, and everyone will have a happy and simple life.

  • Delta Class 11C

I think a grown-up China will be like that: a life should be labeled a “security belt”; all of children can afford to go to school; all the patients were able to afford to seek care; we don’t be feared of the quality of water and food; people can be supported by Government’s “umbrella”; everyone has a house to live in; everyone has social security; citizens share the fruits of development; workers can get wages timely and a better quality of life should be provided. This is I want to see what China to be like in ten years.

  • Sophia Class 4C

I hope government pays more attention in common people’s livelihood rather than GDP. Government invests more practical, rather than face-saving project. Property prices may decline; people have their own accommodation rather than renting; Chinese economy will keep developping smoothly; the universities enroll stable; all the graduates can find their ideal job. Crime will occur seldom; there will be more trees, the sky will be blue and clear in the motherland; the road will be without dust, no garbage everywhere; no bloodshed in Tibet and Xinjiang.
In the long run, I sincerely wish China will rise. That is having been genuine respected by other countries. The society will be filled with love and humility. People’s life can be leisurely.Everyone can fully play their potential at work.. In the environment can be in harmony with nature
In a word, Chinese people can live better and better both outside and inside.

  • Gina Class 15C

China has a long history which we consider to have five-thousand-years resplendent culture. But now China comes to a new period which is known as modernization. In this period, challenges coexist with opportunities. We have been making big progress while facing a lot of new problems. I hope China will continue to develop its economy, especially the high-technology economy. I hope the gap between the rich and the poor will be reduced and Chinese people will have a happy civilized life. I hope the government will take more attention to each people’s real opinion and resolve the problem introduced by citizen as soon as possible.

  • Catherine Class 15C

I hope that China will become more affluent after ten years. And I hope the gap between rich and poor getting smaller and smaller. The community provide a fair opportunity for everyone.
But I think it is very difficult to achieve these objectives in China. Because there are so many people in China, every little problem will become a big problem. China can only progress slowly, no matter economic or political. And social stability is the premise of China’s progress.

  • Susan Class13C

China is a country that develops rapidly nowadays, and it makes a big step forward not only in economy but in all quarters of the society .It just looks like a baby ,and we can see it grow up day by day .As a developing country,China has been made great progress, but We must look at the the phenomenon from all sides, where also have many problems remained to solve, for example ,the presence of district economic imbalance and dual economic structure of urban and rural areas .I sincerely hope one day my motherland can be a big home where is full of love and harmony ,where all child can get high education without worry about money ,where people make an emphasis on wisdom not memory in study .Though the “road” to “perfect society” is still far ,maybe 10 years or even longer ,and may have twists and turns ,but I think the prospects are bright.I don’t want it move so fast, and stress more on speed,I just want it can move along smoothly, less ups and downs.

  • Amber class 11c

Since the reform and opening up, China has achieved remarkable development and in the world today occupy a pivotal position. However, with Deng Xiaoping, China’s reformers have said, China is and will be a long time at the primary stage of socialism. Therefore, we should rationally look at China’s development path of the next, to a certain extent, can not be achieved overnight. As you can see, China is now made mostly in the economic field performance, but there are a lot of deficiencies in other areas, such as political system reform, the traditional cultural heritage, environmental protection and economic paradigm shift and so on. Therefore, I would like to see is all-round progress in all areas of society, not merely in the accumulation of wealth above. 10 years is too short, I hope that 50 years later, China will really become a powerful and harmonious nation.

  • Rebecca Class 2C

Unquestionable, China is still a developing country, there is still long way to go, what is in my eyes is that in the past thirty years, Chinese people have made out standing achievements, like the United Kingdom became a developed country through several hundred years’ industrial revolution. What China needs is only time. As early as the Tang dynasty, China was the most developed and busy country in this world, country was strong, people lived rich life, culture and technology was advanced and China took its place in the front ranks of the world. I am sure Tang dynasty’s a dream of most Chinese. I believe national rejuvenation can be expected soon.

  • Lotus Class 6C

The goal of China now is to build a harmonious socialist society. In my point of views, a harmonious society involves three parts. The first one is the harmony of human beings, which means that every one is equal and people respect each other. The second one is the harmony between humanity and nature. As we all know that nature is important for man as fish and water. However, it has been facing with the threat of human activities. It is high time that we should take measures to protect our environment. Last but not least, it is inner harmony. I think that only when we are in peace of mind can we have the full enjoyment of life. Modern people are very impulsive large. They are very busy. Sadly, most of them don’t know what they really want. They just have no time to think the meaning of life.
I wish my motherland would realize her dreams.

  • Jasmine Class10C

I hope that China in several years can become more and more modern. And the working efficience can be improved, reducing more unnecessary process. What’s more, the Chinese will be educated better and our aesthesical opinions better. What’s more, we can speak out our view to the administrator of our country and the social problems more freely.

  • Lucy Class 10C

It’s very interesting to imagine how China would grow to be after 50 years . In my opinion , it would have many moden mansions everywhere and the living quality of Chinese would improve better and better . The vista of China’s development after 50 years in my mind would be like the scence of many other developed countries . But as Max says : the future is bright while the road is cragged , so we should prepare ourselves well enough to conquer every difficulty . Of course as to our students we should study well and find good jobs after graduation , I always believe that one can’t do things well if he can’t deal with his own well .

  • Tony Class 3C

I love china, although there are mang problems now.I think that china will get more sucess, with oriental wisdom, and less questions. So,ten years later,China will be stronger ,which is no doubt. But,whether many problems, such as environmental pollution, will be solved,is not sure.

  • Now, China is developing very rapidly, although there are many limitations. Comprehensive national strength can be the best measurement of a country’s development level. In 10 years, I hope China will be much stronger not only for its economic capability and military strength, but also for its good performance of the international society. Chinese people can live a better life and the rich-poor gap in China has been narrowed than before. In 50 years later, china will up to scratch the moderately developed countries’ standard. At that time, besides the economic growth, Chinese citizens will have higher civil virtue with the development of educational level. On the political domain, china can get rid of corruption and have a much more democratic government. In a word, I wish that our country flourishes and people live in peace. I am looking forward the real Harmony Society!

  • Sara Class12C

China should be more and more powerful in the future, but china will not pose a threat to the world. Instead, China will become an important force in safeguarding world peace. There is an important theory in China’s traditional culture which is that peace is the most important thing of the world. So even if China become more powerful in the future, she will never evei invade other countries, therefore, China threat theory is not true.

  • Ellen Class 14C

China follows the developing steps as the developed countries.First, concentrate to developing its industry. Then, now, begin to pay more attention to the tertiary industry,”Green GDP”.We still face many problem:the way of chinese development, its way to become strong and powerful is accused “unhealth”.
I think in 10 years,China will narrow the gap between the rich and poor, city and the countryside. And in the 50 years,it’s heart-stirring if people here all live a decent live, not only richer and stronger, but also more comfortable and harmonious.

  • Erica Class3C

I think the most important thing to do is to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. Just as the artitle Respect Farmers said, there are many respectable farmers in China who have made great contributions to our country but live a poor life nowadays. And there are also many workers who haven’t gotten what they deserve. Some people get much more than others not because of what they do but because of what they have. In the early period after the founding of the PRC, the government made effort to abolish the private ownership to make everyone equal. There are no landowners now and no one can make money with his land, but now there are many people making money with their houses even their authority.
We know there are many problems waiting for us to solve but I hope that at least the poor can live a better life in 10 years.

  • Elsa Class 3C

China is now a developing country, and there is quite a large gap between China and the western highly developed countries. But fortunately, China now is developing its economy at a fast growth rate, with prosperous commerce and increasing living standard. What will China be like when it has grown up? Well, it’s hard to imagine. However, the followings are my best wishes: prosperous commerce, high living standard, environment friendly production, narrowed income gap, freedom of speech and strong comprehensive national power.

  • Jerry Class 9C

China is now in its infancy. It is growing now. I don’t think our nation is growing in balance. We are not in a correct way. Although we have a high GDP increasing rate, but we get this high rate with a high cost. We are actually exchanging our environment for the economic boom. These days the west-south part of China are suffering great drought. And someone says that is because of the building of a main dam. The nature is punishing us. Another problem is the wealth distributing. Although we have created a lot of social fortune, but the sharing of the fortune is unfair. Most of the fortune has been given to a small part of the Chinese people. The gap between riches and poor is getting wider and wider. The third problem is the freedom of speech. If you search in the internet, you will find that there are so many banned words now. Even potato became a banned word several days ago. That is absurd. I hope the growing China should solve these three problems, or our nation can’t grow into a healthy country.

  • Charlie Class 6C

China will become the largest economy in the world if she is all grown up. And the influence of China in many fields will be much bigger than the influence at present. China will be much more powerful. There will be more scientists born and cultivated in China. China will have the most patents all around the world. China will have the most advanced technique. But China will develop peacefully. China will not plunder other countries’ resources to develop the country’s economy. Chinese don’t like war and violence. Chinese wish to live a peaceful and harmonious life.
The scale of China’s economy will exceed Japan in 10 years. The standard of life in China will raise obviously. Chinese will be far richer. In 50 years, The GDP of China will exceed the GDP of America. The majority of the population will live in the cities.

  • China is a developing country and there is a long time for her to become a developed country, though China keeps high-speed GDP for more than ten years. With the huge population and country area, the environment among China is complicated, the gap between the rich and the poor, the lack of human rights are both hit targets western countries condemn China.
However, I love my country, and I wish China become richer, stronger, and more harmonious. I believe that will come true.

  • Christy Class 4C

It is really hard to imagine what China will be in 50 years, and I have never imagined what she will be. Countries all over the world have experienced different kinds of movements, including both the forward movement and the backward one. Here just take Ancient Rome’ history as an example. Ancient Rome, which was one of the strongest in the world, disappeared because of wars. When the situations changed, every country must try hard to adjust to the new environment, or it would fall behind.

And there are so many uncertainties for China’s development. So from my point of view, it is hard to define what she will be in the future far from now. What we wish is that she will command the ability to come over the hurdles ahead.

  • Vincent Class 4C

I believe the ordinary people will have more influence on government policies. Chinese government has to respond to pressure actively and successors of the top officials will be more open-minded than their predecessors on many issues.
China’s share of global output will steadily increase, but china can’t dominate the global economy. As we know, plentiful and cheap labor, citizen saving, and government policy contribute to China’s rapid growth in the last few decades. But China still has a long way to go with respect to innovation; only innovation can lead a country to become the engine of world economy.
China and the outside world still have to engage in mutual accommodation. Both sides will sometimes feel uncomfortable because of culture differences. Discord is not always about clash of national interest, sometimes it’s about contradiction of philosophies.

  • Rita Class 4C

I hope that 10 years later the quality of people life is really improved in China, not only the rising of GDP, and the social security system will achieve full coverage. All can have the right for pensions, medical services and housing. In 50 years, I hope there will be a transform in people’s belief or notion. Everyone treats each other kindly, and there are few crimes. Besides, people especially the young can treasure their own lives, don’t committee suicide rashly. It is very difficult to achieve this wish. Maybe 50 years is not enough, and 100 years or longer is need.

  • Marco Class 3C

In my mind, only when China has ability to respect most of its individual it is grown up. It means everyone could lead a respectfully life. Fair and hardworking is respected and properly rewarded. Economic grown up is just a necessary condition but not a sufficient one. We have to improve our minds and spirit together with improving the economic status. This is the basic principles.

  • Jim Class 1C

China is a great country which was the most powerful country in the ancient times. However, it was invaded by the western countries in more than 100 years. In 1949, the People’s Republic of China was established. From then on, China has achieved independence. Especially since the reform and opening up in 1978, China’s economic development has been fast. Now, though it is a developing country, it is the most potential country. China makes the significant contribution to the economic development of the world. I firmly believe that China will be more and more powerful and the people will live a happy life in the future.

  • Anne Class 4C

In 10 years, I expect China’s economy to develop dramatically with a high speed, almost all people to get rid of poverty, the difference between the rich and the poor will to deflate, the life levels in cities and countries to converge, the RMB to appreciate to an acceptable level, and the realty and stock market to mature and to become efficient. In 50 years, my expectations mainly lay in the social and political aspects. I wish the social welfare system to cover all the groups and to become more even, the democracy to be advocated and highlighted much more, and the government to respect and protect human rights more, like the person liberty, the freedom of speech and expression and so on.

  • Lily Class 11C

As a Chinese, I certainly hope my motherland strong enough, and grow up into a development
country rapidly. But it is my good will. In fact, our country need long time to finish the
    huge task.
Although it will take generations to achieve the aim, I still believe in my lovely country
and industrious Chinese. They can not only create history but also bright future.
China will be a country that has beautiful environment and formidable economic. At that time,
Chinese will own rich and harmonious life. Each Chinese will be proud for our country.

  • Jerry Class 6C

Undoubtedly economy will continue to increase in China, but economy growth does not necessarily go with development. Development means a lot, such as change of social structure, health care, social justice, and so on. Unbalance between the east and west will be a big problem in 20 years. And during the process of urbanization, more and more people live in cities, employment is another social issue.
Though there are still so many issues unsolved, prosperity is what we can imagine in 10 years or 50 years.

  • Silvia Class10C

I wish China can be much richer in the future. I hope in several years everyone in China can have his own house. Nowadays only a small part of people can live in their own houses, the problem of living is still serious in China.

  • Sally Class 3C

In my opinion, in the long run, maybe China will become a peaceful messenger. I believe China love peace, and the Chinese government also loves peaceful society. In 50 years, China will play a more and more important role in helping the whole world’s harmony and flourish. China will become a powerful country, but it will not mean conquest or war. China will benefit the world, which is her hope.
And for China herself, I hope that the gap between the rich and the poor can be narrowed in 10 years and in 50 years. What’s more, China can take a lot of measures in the educational system, the insurance system, the living welfare system. All of these will care more for the people’s real demand. Let’s believe China, I am proud of her.

  • Andy Class 4C

There no doubt that China will have a more bright future after 10 years and in 50 years .The east dragon will have greater influence and bears responsibility well related to the international affairs and conferences than ever before. For example, the activities include environmental protection climate change safety of world or regions and economic cooperation. Of course, it may still have some drawbacks involved in the institutions of governments and system of special market economy. All in all, I believe that my country will keep its central value of Chinese culture.

  • Selina Class10C

I really love China. For our country, I have a big dream. In 10 years, I hope people can live well with true happiness. There is no need for people to worry about houses, cars, expensive marriage, health care, education fee and so on.
People will have more time and chances to do things they really like. What’ more, the pretty China can get along with the other countries pacificaly.

  • Charlie Class 6C

Nowadays peace and development are the two principle themes in this world. China is not an exception. The government of China now almost focuses all its attention on the economy construction. How to develop the economy of the country has become the principal task of the government. So if China keeps on developing the economy at the speed of 8%-9% per year, I think that Chinese will be richer and richer. And I dare say that one day the scale of China’s economy will overtake the U.S. size.
Besides the economy, China will make great progress in many different areas. Take the education for example; China will strengthen the investment in education. The large sum of the investment will greatly improve the quality of the population.
In conclusion, China will achieve great progress in many areas in 10 years and in 50 years.

  • Anna Class 15C

Dividing the whole world into developing countries and developed countries is just one kind of division in the modern world which mainly judged by the development of economy. According to that, China, of course, belongs to the developing countries. As we all known, China has changed a lot since the decision of reform and opening up policy. So we have enough confidence that our country will be more and more prosperous and more stable. In ten years, I believe the development of economy will be most conspicuous. And in 50 years, we Chinese people will be happier than now. In a word, there will be no war, no poverty, and most importantly, no deceit at all. I believe the dream will come true if we Chinese make our every effort to build our country under the leadership of Communist Party of China.

  • Heather Class 12C

Yes, China “is still in its infancy”, and one day it will be “all grown up”. However, as we known, some problems may also come up along with the increasing advantages in the process of China’s development, such as the environment. Hence, ten years later, I hope that our china’s economy can be developed steadily and unemployment problems can be solved effectually. What is more, I expect that china’s corruption problem has been completely controlled and all government departments are incorruptible, candid and take full care of their people. Last but not least, I hope that our China can get along well with the nature and the other countries all over the world.

  • Dina class 13C

In my opinion, the word—grown up—means maturity which is defined as deliberate actor and consideration. Actually, in the past 30 years, China has achieved great success in its economic development since opening to the outside of the world. After ten years of reform, the Chinese government formulated a policy to establish a market economy in 1992 and the development of diversified economic elements was encouraged. To meet the requirements of it, the operations of state-owned enterprise have been changed so that they fit in with the modern enterprise system. Thereby, the average growth of GDP in China was 9.6% during the period of 1979-2005. The number of people living the poverty sharply fell from 250 million in 1978 to 26.1 million in 2004. However, just like a baby who has a lot to learn and starts entering the adult world, China must balance the relationship between development and social fair in order to complement the leap. Although the accumulation of economic is increasing in China today, not everyone can benefit from it and there is a huge gap between the rich and poor. As far as I am concerned, that problem cannot be solved with the development of economic. Chinese government should invest more in public resources and perfect the social security system to improve the lives of citizens. At that time, China is going to be stronger and achieve the goal of social harmony.

  • Andy Class 2C

China has attracted worldwide attention for its great achievements for the last 30 years from its opening up and modernization, although it is incontestable that China is a developing country, and it has lots of unresolved problems. In the environment of the economic depression of all over the world, China has maintained its strong momentum, so we should be confident about the future of China. From the bottom of my heart, I want my motherland become stronger, regardless of whether from economic aspect or from military aspect; the Chinese people will live a happier life. In the next ten years, if China can maintain the trend rate of the growth, I think it will have more influence towards the world, in other words, it will have more right to speak. In the next fifty years, I think it is available for China to catch up with America, becoming the most powerful country of the world.
