JEWS

JEWISH CULTURE

The Jews were enslaved in Egypt for 400 years, dispersed throughout the world, exterminated in Hitler’s Third Reich, saved by China who provide 3 cities of refuge, Shanghai, Harbin and Kaifeng, and finally given their homeland back in 1947 by a vote of the UN where China votes YES.

The Old Testament of the Bible is the history and culture of my Jewish people. The New Testament is the story of one Jew, Jesus.

If you want to know more, I suggest these movies:

Ben Hur

Defiance

Exodus

King David

King of Kings

Jerusalem

Munich

Nuremberg Trials

Pianist

Schindler’s List

Ten Commandments

They are all available on the SYSU web page.

I am interested in the mystic things. I like to know the old stories. It is said that the Jews are the cleverest people. They are good at businesses. It’s a pity that I know little about their stories. Thank you for your introduction, it remains me to know more about the Jews. None of these movies above I have saw before. I would like to spend some time to see some of them with my friends.

I have watched some of the movies, but the image of Jews is still not clear. I couldn’t image what they used to eat for lunch; I couldn’t image what they used to do in Friday evening, would they wake up late in the Saturday morning; or if they would go out for a drink in a bad day or not? All that about their daily live are in the fog. It is said that Horowitz had once said: ’There are only 3 kinds of pianists in the world, they are Jewish-pianists, homosexual pianists, and pool pianists. ’ Maybe all the Jews are proud?

I watched the movie Pianist. It shocked me a lot. The army was so cruel that the Jews could not survive in their own country. We all know that the Jews are smart. They have about 1/3 of the world’s wealth. But at that time, they struggled to survive. Even a small piece of sugar would be cut into 6 pieces. At that very moment, I believed the army was a devil. Luckily, the Jews were brave and at last they won the battle. But I felt sad about the war and hoped that we could enjoy a harmonious society forever.
