It is with deep admiration and respect for Deng Xiaoping that we attempt to build upon his philosophy and vision for modernization of China’s educational system.
We are mindful of the wisdom of Deng Xiaoping when he said:
“It’s not that we have too many debates and discussions among persons of different opinions, but too few. Erroneous views may crop up during discussions, but that is nothing to be afraid of. We must adhere to the policy of ‘letting a hundred schools of thought contend’, and promote debate. Different schools of thought should respect and complement each other. Academic exchanges should be promoted. No success in research can be the result of the efforts of a single individual: it always rests on the achievements of past generations as well as our own. Any new scientific theory is a summation of practical experience. How can a new theory be evolved if it is not based on a summation of the practical experience of both past and present generations of scientists, both Chinese and foreign?”

I agree with what he said with reservation. Indeed, we need debates and discussions, only through this way we can get more information and make a right decision. But the problem is we have too many peoples, if we consider everyone’s feel, that is impossible, and it will cost too much time. So we need a leader, a leader who can make a decision from the general situation just like a general in the army. If he thinks too much maybe he will lose the battle.
So, my opinion is we need debates and discussions but not too many!
I agree with Deng Xiaoping, not because he is one of the best leader in China.
China is a large country with 1.3 billion people. China developed very fast because all Chinese people try their best to make our country better. If China only have one people, there won’t be any development and it will soon been invaded. A country can develop only when all the people in that country try their best. Without debate and complement, it is harder to make new, creative and the most important, current ideas.
We need UNIVERSITY!
Totally agree! It is hard to imagine no debates and discussion among academic fields. Permission and encouragement of discussion is not only a representation of academic freedom but also a reflection of human rights.
But sometimes inertia makes people not to think voluntary but just accept the opinions of others. It is horrible but we all experienced. So I really like the atmosphere of China Holistic English when we began a discussion among our students. Some students were very lovely when they were discussing. But it is not enough. What I saw is majority of students didn’t participate in, especially girls. And in some topics, the depth is not enough also. I hope more time and more opportunities will be given to us and the teacher will encourage us so that we can be trained to have faith to think.
I admire the wisdom of Deng Xiaoping very much. I especially agree with his word above. It is true that our country makes a great progress depending on a lot of workers, farmers and scientists and so on. However, after we have to debate the different among what we believe, we should sit down and have fun together. Because things must be settled, and we discuss just to figure out how we can get though this. Obviously, we can’t require everybody have the same thought, the same action. So, of course, there’re something we can’t totually agree with each other.
I am totally agree the perspective above.Rome was not built in a day,likewise,the academic achievement especially need such kind of accumulation.. It is sort of the folksay“three head are better than one”.therefore, It is only enough exchange that we can find out what we lack of and then what we should do in order to make up. The Nobel Prize is a typical example，the discoverer of DNA double helix ——watson and crick ，thanks to their intimate cooperation，otherwise ，the history might be rewrited by another team.
Deng Xiaoping is a famous leader in China, he is the right person to bring up the reform and opening-up policy. Reform and opening-up accord with the aspirations of the Party membership and the people and keep up with the trend of the times. Major breakthroughs were made in reform and opening-up. People’s living standards improved significantly. It is not only changing China, but also changing the whole world. He is deeply admirated and respected by us.
In the old days, our chinese were conservative . they had conservative bias between China culture and foreign culture. But since Deng Xiaoping, in his time, he advocated people to think a lot, try a lot. Just as the comments said that “It’s not that we have too many debates and discussions among persons of different opinions, but too few. Erroneous views may crop up during discussions, but that is nothing to be afraid of.”
Like Deng Xiaoping, I remember someone said that” China will late develop 20 years without Deng Xiaopin.”
I agreed on it. We should not be afraid of mistake and ready to accept the other’s criticism and correct our views. It would broaden our horizon and improve our level of theory. We should take mistake as something ordinary. Just as the saying said‘ Standing on the shoulders of giants.’, the achievement of theory is built on the accumulation of life experiences. It doesn’t belong to a individual but to the human being.
Here at China holistic English, we are not afraid of mistake and just to enjoy English. Through practice, we found our mistakes and help each other to correct them. It is good for our English learning.
I am very agree with his view.He is such a great person who has influenced our country and society so deeply.In the past centrury,with his philosophy,he changed a lot of people’s mind toward socialism,and lead a new way for our country to follow till mow.
With his efforts in practice,we China has done a great effect about the world.Our country become more and more stronger,we Chinese get more and more respect from foreigners than before.Not only we have finished getting back Hong Kong and Macau,but also get other countries known that our country is rising,we are no longer a weak nation.

To some extent, Deng Xiaoping’s philosophy has been proved by the 30 years’ great changes in China. Just as a beautiful and vigorous garden exists impossibly if only one kind of flower is growing, an penetrating and true view comes into being impossibly if we don’t have a attitude of ‘letting a hundred schools of thought contend’. I totally agree with what he said. Deng Xiaoping is a great man to China especially what he had done to China’s modernizations. And for education debates and discussions are very important and indispensible. As he said, no success in research can be the result of the efforts of a single individual. What’s more here in China Holistic English we are indeed true to Deng’s philosophy. Different kinds or even totally opposite thoughts could be allowed. There’s no standard for answers whether it’s right or wrong. We need different voices so that we could know more and learn more. As an old Chinese saying: the sea refuses no river.
Yes, Deng’s argument are point out the core issue in China. There should be more exchanges in China ,there should be more debates and discussions between our people. Just as he said ,”Any new scientific theory is a summation of practical experience. ” What today we have is our elder generations’ achievement,what we have done ,is just stand at thrie shoulder. But just this way ,our theories and technology can develop. The development of our society is also based on this way.
So ,Deng’s arguement are fit to our current society ,even to our education system.
The policy of reform and opening is proposed by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. This policy promote Chinese economic rapid development. So I very agree with his view and admire his wisdom very much.. I agree with his theory of science and education. The essence of education is to teach people to better respond to the living environment. It is also a long-term future of our country to consider. Deng Xiaoping in China’s bold reforms in various fields so that we have today, a better life, we should be grateful to him.
I can’t agree to what he said more. Deng Xiaoping is a great politician of reform in China. Thanks to Mr. Deng, we can build up the modernization of China’s educational system. I have a great esteem for Deng Xiaoping all the time because he has made China change a lot, and I agree with his philosophy for he has made us understand the essence of academic. Firstly, it is well known “no discussion, no truth”. Although erroneous views may crop up during discussions, truths come after erroneous, so we should take discussions seriously. secondly, we should learn from past generations and the foreigners, because the ablity of a single individual is limited, which Deng Xiaoping knew the meaning of, so he put forword the reform and open policy. Now we benifit from this policy. The last, we should think highly of practical experience, which is the base of new theories.
Debates and discussions among persons of different opinions can improve our country’s academic development. And the purchase of knowledge is the motivation of the construction of the creative country. Deng Xiaoping is one of the greatest man in China. Because of his improvement in economic and politics of China, China becomes stronger and stronger. Deng Xiaoping is the leader I worshipped most, his views and ideas changed china from bottom, he was practical and put all his vows into practice. He was the idol that all governors should look forward to. Debates are needed, which are symbols of academic prosperity; debates will inspire wits’ sparkles and make academic atmosphere march forward. I can’t agree with Deng Xiaoping’words more! It don’t owe to the leader in China but he breaks the closed environment of the Mao period when the people saw him as a sage and don’t dare to say something negative about him ,what’s more, hardly put forward to some different opinions with your leaders.
Deng Xiaoping’words has a great sense ,due to giving the open environment to the present generations of scientists, we can have the right to express our opinions freely , and we can deliver our minds to others , and we can communicate our thinks with everyone without worried about anything even if they may be wrong. because we can learn about a lot of things from others.

I am totally agree with Deng Xiaoping’s philosophy and his opinion of education system in China, especially agree with his idea—letting a hundred schools of thought contend. In academic circles of our country, we really need this thought. In Chinese academic word, the academicians are thought to be leading authority and their theories are correct. If a scholar questions the theory of the academic, he/she will be thought to be an alien. Just like a professor in my department, he got a new theory about the genesis of granite, which is totally different from the traditional theory. After he published his theory, no academician in China supported him, instead of denouncing, though his theory is welcome out of China. Although our government always said that we should follow the Deng Xiaoping policy. However, how many people in China really understand DENG’sphilosophy. Deng Xiaoping is a great man, his thought is intellectual treasure, and we should value and understand it.
Of course I agree with our greater leader. Indeed the always calm lake will finally be dead. China is a big country in the word and also has much more people than others. As naturally, it should have more ideas as others. But in fact, it developed not as fast as it should be. There is no doubt that deng xiaoping is great man, he should deserve our respect, not only for his contribution to the modernization of china, but also his contribution to education. When china was in the period of cultural revolution, education and knowledge was not respect, but when deng came into power, he change the educational system, he pointed out that science is the first fertility.so we Chinese have focus so much on our educational system, with much debate, certainly. October 31, 2009, an especial day, when Tsien Hsue-shen, the “Two Bombs and One Satellite” of China, passed away. In his last talk, he pointed out that nearly all the universities in China lack of innovative spirit, which would undermine our country’s long-term development. We need courage to say what others have not said and do what others have not done.
It’s strikingly similar to the wisdom of Deng Xiaoping. Two sapiential men have the same idea about China’s current situation. And in my view it really is. Most of us believe in authority, and have no courage to be contrary to it. We say what others have said and do what others have done. As a result, no innovations in the true sense could be reached.

I think, different opinions may crop up during discussions, whether it’s erroneous or some new points. Others’ opinions or perspectives may let you re-examine your original opinion, and bring your argument or analysing methods to completion. I always get some created ideas from discussions with other people, no matter if they have profession knowledge in my study, then I can perfect my papper.

‘letting a hundred schools of thought contend’ This is a great idea that i can not agree with more!Now i am thinking that if Deng held the opposite view,for example,”I am the leader of china,all of you should follow me!” he would not held his seat for so long a time.In fact, more than two thousand years ago,in acient China,the thought was emerged. I mean that ‘letting a hundred schools of thought contend’.I really do not want to explain why it is a wonderful idea.A vividly example:a river flowing into the sea,which part of the river do you think abound more fish.Apparently,estuary delta produces more fish.Why? As we see,different water,different nutritive materials mixing in estuary delta,this ‘conflict’ makes there energetic,more productive! So,think about our China Holistic English, you want it to be more energetic,more productive? You have had your answer,right?
With no doubt, I agree with Deng Xiaoping. I think the philosophy in his words is like a light in the dark, considering the situation of those years. We had gone too far away from the right during the “revolution”, and it was high time we catch up. What we need was a beacon in the sea at that time. And Deng came up! His talk is full of basic rules in learning and working, but quite constructive. Still water is not what we need. All we need is a “storm” in every field.
Most of the time we are true to Deng’s philosophy: we chat, debate, and talk out loud our feelings. But there are few times that we are not that active until we are driven to. In my opinion, Deng Xiaoping is one of the greatest politicians in China. He is a firmly reformer, and has the courage to destroy outdated policies and carry out new ones. The words – “Any new scientific theory is a summation of practical experience”, point out that theory must be put in practice. As a English leaner, we need more practice. Practice is the only way to possess an eligible Oral English. “English is not a subject you study a couple of hours a week…It is something you live 24 hours a day, seven days a week”.

I can’t agree with him more. It’s necessary to debate and discuss for different views in academic fields and also other fields. Well,I must say something first before commneting this artical. When I was a little girl,my farther told that I should to study better than him,even than their father. When they were young,they have no chances to go to school just bacause of the Cultural Revolution.After that period,Deng Xiaoping said that we must to respect the intellectualls,and we must resum the healthy system of education.From then on, there are many important revolution in China’s system ,including education system.Today,this revolution also have many aspects need to be cunsumated,and we also need the courage and the boldness to do this thing.So what I want to say is that we should have a open mind and the wisdom to accept the whole aspects of one thing,such as in the academia,and that we can take a dialectical idea to face the world and oueselves.

Deng Xiaoping is a brilliant architect of China’s Reform and Opening-up and foresighted politician. I admire him very much. I quite agree with Den Xiaoping’s view. We used to be a faithful listener more than a proponent. This is undoubtedly a respect for others, but at the same time, we lose the chance to put forward some constructive and innovative arguments. As a graduate student majoring in biology, I have been deeply aware of the importance of the debates. Debates and discussions can greatly improve out thought and let us avoid making serious mistakes. Honestly speaking ,To some extent I do not agree with him. it may be right in their times because after the cultural revolution launched by chairman Mao,people dare not to express their opinion in order to prevent the witch hunt.But in our times when there are too many discussions,too many opinions ,people do nothing but just express their ideas,no matter it be right or wrong . And different opinions of the same thing means that we really think in our mind for the thing, not say it at one please. The viewpoint of Dengxiaoping is great and I agree with him absolutly.The development of one country needs many debates and discussions among persons or organizations of different opinions.If there are many different ideas around us,we can find good and proper one from them.But at sometimes the situation is not allowed ,for example,if the leader dictates all affairs,then you can hardly express your opinion.I still think the discussions are very useful if the condition permitted!

Although it seems to be convenient and efficient to make a decision without any controversy, Debates and discussions is necessary not only in academic field but also in our political and economic policy-making process.
