I’m NOT Lovin it!
I am a post-graduate non-English major at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.
I am required to study English for one more semester. I do not want to study English. I am only doing it because it is required by the university. I will never need to use English after I graduate. I rarely attend class, never do the homework and frankly do not care if my English improves or not. When I do attend class I sit as far away from the teacher as possible to avoid any participation in the class activities.
Some of my classmates feel differently. They know that English is increasingly important in the job market. They are highly motivated to study English because they realize that with English they can earn a higher salary. These classmates never miss a class and complete all of their homework assignments. They always sit in the front row and constantly volunteer for participation in classroom activities.
Some of my classmates study English because their parents expect it and we Chinese do what we can to please our parents. They approach English study with a “so-so” attitude and their English capabilities are “so-so.”
Tell us your story, what is your attitude towards the further study of English?
I donot know how to say about my story of english learning.
I as a general student in china went to school and passed the exam.that is all.
However when i read The Washington Post,i was amazing and angry.
From then on,i know what are the differences between a free country and China.
Now western philosophy is my major, the importance of english is huge.
Most great philosophers in modernday are writting in english,and there are a lot of great english works.
So i hop to improve it.
You’re right,English is money!That is my purpose of studying after graduting.I just want to find a great jod and have better life.So,English becomes my tool.If I want to make good use of the tool,I must practise for a long time to make sure I can control the tool.But I like English.That’s fun!In a word,why not do the interesting things? I think English has been a part of my life,and I am trying to make myself better.
I realized English is rather important and useful when I was a hign middle school student.So from then on I always holded that I was attaching enough importance to English study and spending lot of time on it.but to my disappoint I am still can’t communicate with foreigners in English freely .especially,as I come aross them ,I find I even can’t express myself. So sometimes I think that maybe I am not the material of learning English and want to give it up.Yet,This year I met a student who is from the department of chemistry ,his spoken Eglish is very fluent and in order to practice English he come to attend our Eglish class,what is more,in class he never worry wheaher he would lose his face or not,just speak out, practice as much as possible.at that moment ,I was shocking,I finally know why I still can’t speak Eglish well.the reason is simple ,I didn’t really take Eglish study seriously and put it into practice.This year may be the last year for me to have Eglish class in all my life.I can’t waste the valueble chance anymore.I must make good use of it and try my best to improve my English level.I am sure I can do it.
English is a familiar stranger for me. It is familiar, because I have studied English more than ten years. It is strange, because my oral English is very poor and I can’t communicate with others in English even now.
But my attitude to English is positive, I am loving the familiar stranger, and I hope I can make my English better. I pinned my hope on following a good teacher, or make a friend who is good at English. I never try to improve my English by myself and just complain that there is no chance for me.
This semester we should take the english speaking class, when I enter the class room, I am a bit exited, and also a bit intense. Mr.martin is very humorous and friendly, but sometimes he is very strict, especially when we are not following his request. Ionight MR.martin told us the secret of better our English: reading more, writing more, listening more and speaking more. Whether to better your English or not is in your choice. MR.Martin told us the truth.
I love English, I will do my best to make my English better.
Before our Professor Wolff email the homework to me, I have already replied this topic with a short comment. However, I can not find it now. May be the administrator have deleted it. Anyway, I am ready to write and correct my comment again now.
As a so-so graduate student, I have felt boring in studying English for a long time, but I think a foreign language is very useful. Of course, not for money, just for a good trip in foreign country. I love to travel, to a place I have never been to, so English can help me in communication. I agree with Professor Wolff that we need to create our own English-speaking environment for learning how to use it. China Holistic English is a good place for us to create this environment and communicate with each other. Thank you, Professor Wolff.

If I remember correctly,from junior to Graduate,I have studied English for ten years ,however,I always con’t comunicate with anyone in English.Maby that’s a very woefully thing.The only use of studing English is to dealing with examinations,which leads to consequences that I become a tool for the examination and ignore the essence of language learning.What the purpose of leaning Englishi isn’t examination but comunication.
Now,I need to think what I got for this years and Whether I would like to learn English.In fact,it do not mean anything they did not get,because I have a certain foundation for English learning and I ‘m lovin it.
The problem is that we lack of environment to speak English.In this term ,I hope I have a new breakthrough in English language learning with teacher’s help.
I like English because I think it’s very interesting.I can use it to communicate with the foreigners.
It help me to know the excellent world outside China.To know what the people in other country is thinking ,is doing ,is living.That’s great for me!But I don’t like the reading in our English tests because I can’t do it very well.I don’t know it’s my fault or the test’s fault.
Frankly speaking, I am always a fans of English since I was an elementary student, because I was surprised of such a different language that spoken by non-yellow skin, non-black hair people. I just think how interesting it is if I learn how to speak it and communicating with people fluently is the core goal. Now I am a post-graduate student, but haven’t attend such a formal oral class before, it is exciting, vivid and your humor and the message you conveys to me is deeply impressed, I like watching movies, that is what I do in my spare time. And I am so happy that you choose such an entertaining way to teach us and I sincerely hope we both have a happy semester together.
Since I learn English from eight years old, English has been a part of my life for eighteen years. However, no matter how spend my time on being a “CET Machine” in college, I take it just like you said: English is for communication. I feel lucky to meet holistic when I am a post-graduate already, who is so tired of English for many years. I strongly hope that I could be supercalifragilisticexpialadocious after the semestr.
Though I have been learnt English for many years, I am not good at it. Sometime people may ask :” Do you love English?”, I think it is very hard to answer. As a language, it is widely used that so many people around the world use it.Obviously,it is very useful,from this reason it seems no enough reasons to hate it, but to say love it is not easy, I think this situation mainly comes from the mode for learning English. For learning to learn, it is not very good way, but if we love it , in a very lovingly mind, it is another scene, maybe we could say we are loving it,but I do not. Though it is hard to say i’m loving it for me, there is a chance to learn it well, why not? we could just see it to be a game, playing it with joys! Object depressive mood, just do it for fun! And I believe that I can do it better!
I started learning English when I was a child. My father sincerely hoped that I could master English because he knew that English is getting more and more important nowadays. Therefore, my father asked his friend who was a university graduate to teach me English. I studied English to please my father at the beginning, but I did gradually enjoy learning English because I found that it’s interesting. English was a required course when I went to the primary school, the middle school and high school. I studied English grammar, remembered a great number of English vocabularies, and then always got a good mark in the examinations. However, my oral English remains poor though my reading and writing are not bad. I’m so afraid of making mistakes and being laughed at that I just couldn’t speak English out. I understand that language is a communication tool and if I don’t speak it out, it’s useless. I really hope that I can overcome the fear and make my oral English better.

I like English undoubtfully, not only because it is useful for our future job, but because I really like it . I think English is a culture, though learning English I know a lot about other culture which is very different from mine. I have been studying English for nearly eleven years , however, I can’t even understand what a English-speaking person said when they speak English, and I can’t speak English fluently too. What a shame ! Through a class of professor Martin Wolff, I realized where the problem lied , I just afraid of losing my face !!! I think the author’s opinion may be several students’ opinion.Dislike English,but there are too many reasons force them to do it.Of course,this’s ambivalent and sad.
In fact,I love English.I know how important it is ,because I had lost lots of opportunities due to poor English.I admire that persons who can speak English fluently.What I can’t overcome is feeling embarrassed and shy,but after the first lessons,I know that as long as writing more,speaking more,listenning more,reading more and creating English environment for myself,everything will go well.
I hold an opposite idea.Because I’m lovin it! Studying English is the thing that can me feel pleasant. I am a girl who likes to communicate with others.So learning English offers such a chance to me.I can make friends with strangers in the English corner.Even I can have a impressive experience in having conversation with foreigners.It brings me a big sense of accomplshment that cannot be replaced by other things. English usually leaves me much sweet memory.I can’t forget the days that I practised my oral English with my boyfriend. We help each other to improve the communication skill as well as the affection. I’ve learned English for many years, but when chatting with native English speakers, I still have some communication difficulties. English is money? I’ve heard a lot about it. Also I heard that time is money. Before went to this school, I’ve already worked as a software engineer for more than 3 years. It’s sure that if your English is too poor, it will be difficult for you to study the newest technology. The result is that you will be hard to promote.
I my opinion, English is useless in my life most of time. But why I have to learn it hardly? I think sometimes we learn something just to avoid some other things. For example, everyone loves money. This is not only for the reason that money can fullfill our desires, but also for that money can make us feel safe in case of accidents,such as illness and disaster. In the similar way, learning English is a technology in case we have to use it in the future though it is useless now. We don’t know what will happen in the rest of life. As far as I am concerned, to study English is one of my interests. Admittedly, like other Chinese students, I paid a lot of time to study English in order to pass amount of different English exami nations, and most of which lay stress on writing, reading, translating rather than speaking.
However, I never neglect the importance of oral English, I hope I can speak English fluently. This course gives me a chance which maybe the last one in school to improve my oral English. So I am sure that I will catch this valuable opportunity.
I started to learn English when I was just six-year-old. I remember the day I decided to join a English Class quite clear. That day I was riding a bike in the middle school near my house, and saw a post of the English class on the wall beside the teaching building, then I rushed to home and told my parents I wanted to study English. I regretted the decision quite a lot of times in the coming six years until I went to middle school. When I was forced to recite the English text and do dictations again and again I always thought , if I didn’t make the decision, my life will be much happier. But when I entered the middle school, just because I had learned English six years earlier than my classmate, I could get high score in exam easily. From then on , the decision of learning English became my proud. After I entered the University, the study of English in collage is so different from that in high school and middle school, and I found English study is such a tough task that no matter how much works on it is not enough. During the study, sometimes I feel upset as my childhood, but this time I know that, all of the hard work will get repay. Before that, one should know exactly what he/she wants and pay enough for it.
Speaking frankly, I’m a little afraid of learning English these years because I hate to take English examinations. At the first time when I was in touch with English, I had great enthusiasm; but gradually I lost my interest for several reasons such as taking examinations and the boring teacher. I have never had oral English class before as interesting as this semester.
Passion comes back to me once again. I hope keeping this forever.
My dear martin, you give me such a shock that you know so much about our attitudes to English, our bad habits of learning English, even our motivation of learning English. Especially from your speech, I learn a lot, that we need a refresh new way to learn English.
For about sixteen years, we have learned English of grammar, words and so on. We take it for granted that it is all of the English, the tool we need to pass tests to prove our ability at least. After passing test, we leave English far behind. As for me, I haven’t write, speak or even touch English for almost two years, since I was recommended for admission to Sun Yat-sen University.
But you remind me that English is very important through our life, we need it to work, to get a decent salary in the competitive job market, as you say “English is money”. It’s you who stress on the environment of speaking English and create one for us. I have tried your way out by checking up the word list one by one before watch the movie-The terminal. When I watch the movie, see the titles, I can’t control my mind to recall the meaning of the word I have checked. Sometimes, I lose it, but it doesn’t matter I pause it and open my yellow holistic English book to see it once again. I can know how to use the word, what is the authentic saying, most important, the exact pronunciation. It’s the English that is real English, isn’t it? It sounds miraculous that I can learn English in such a relax way! Thanks a lot for all you did for us-your student.
English is important not only for my further study of economy but also for my future job. I know this for years. What else I know for years is that to make my English better, I need to read more, listen more, write more, and speak more. However, I didn’t spend much time doing these things that I know are important. Maybe I am just another stupid and lazy one who sleeps taking the 400RMB book as his pillow. Maybe it’s time to choose something that is good for myself.
I am very interested in English, I really envy who can speak fluent English, I usually do exercises, but few speak English, and sometimes I can understand someone else But I wouldn’t say something in english, the opportunity to practice oral English is very few, although I am a post- graduate student now, I didn’t have this oral training before, your humor and your teaching methods I was impressed, I also like to watching movies, I am very pleased to be your student, I sincerely hope that we have a happy semester.

Martin is right,”study hard and master the Enlish’is a lie.I am one of those students who have been cheat.I am shame of my poor oral English and afraid of English classes thouh I have been a post-graduate and have learned English for 13 years.I wish I could speak English better and could communicate with others smoothly instead of only an performance on the paper.
I remember that there was time when I “got well with “English.At that time ,our English teacher told us to read and tell some interesting stories from NEW CONCEPT ENGLISH loudly everyday,and to watch the English TV programs everyday,and also to practice some dialogs with classmates,instead of picking up the words in the text one by one and doing grammar exercise as much as possible.I done as she told, and I felt the happyness the English brought with althought it was still a work day after day.But the work was rooted in everyday life.

Yes,what I need is an environment and it is up to myself.I should make chances to think,to speak, to write,to listen ,in English.After all,language is an important part of life.I make chances for it and mybe someday it return more chances for my life.
When I was five years old, my father began to teach me ABC. From then on, English means my father’s pleasure. When I went to school, I was required to learn grammar and words by heart. At that time, English means examination and pressure. So I didn’t consider English is interest or attractive from an early age.
After graduation from university, when I told to my friends who had got a good job, I found that English means more chances and money. Louis Pasteur had said that Chance favors only the prepared mind. English is what we need to prepare as a post-graduate student. We need to learn English for ourselves.
When it comes to how to learn English, I have tried all kind of method of it. The problem is I can’t stick to it, and I always leave things half done. So what I design to do is to keep on studying English.
I want to be a seccessor.And in my opinion that if one is successful he must be good at English.I love English because it can make me special.And now i’m thirsty to learn more English,and i’m dreamming of speaking english fluently.So i’m very happy that we still have english classes.
In my opinion,studying english is just like how you treat with the others.If you consider it with your friend,lovin it,and treat it seriously ,you could study it very well .In the other hand,if you consider it with a stranger ,you may be far away from it.So,in a word,if one want to control english skills,and speak english fluently,you should lovin it firstly.And from now on,let’s lovin it!
For a long time, English in my life was just a subject which I must pass the exams and get the certificates in it. After I passed the CET-6, I thought that I would not have to learn English any more. So you can image how disappointed was I when I had known that we still should have English lessons in postgraduate period. English was always my weak spot, and it seems to have become a routine. My attitude towards English had changed when I was about to step into the world. Reality told me that English could bring more chance for me, English could help me to communicate, and English even could make money, again and again. I had to pick up my English, if I really want a better job and a better life.
As a post-graduate student in this university, I have already realized the importance of English. It is a very essential tool to explore brand-new knowledge as well as a tool to further my major study. In the past four years, I had never spoken to any foreigners. I know I am learning silent English; I have no confidence to finish even one English sentence. However, Fortunately, I was chosen to be an interpreter at an International meeting in October last year, with the job to serve the scholars from the other countries. Not until then did I realize how fun English is. I like helping others without any language problems, and I like interpreting words without any difficulty. But I know it is still a further long way to go. What I hope in this semester is that I can continue to practice my English with holistic English learning way.
Actually, I think I’m interested in English learning with the reason that I have a good first teacher. It is her that makes me know the importance of English and it is her teaches me how to learn English well. She told me if you want to be a successful person, you must learn English well, and that if you want to be more masterful that others, you should study harder in English that others. These words inspired my morale. From then on, I always try every chance to learn English.
Now there is another opportunity in front of me. I will do my best to make use of it.
I’m NOT Lovin it!
The story between English and me began when my elder sister came to her middle school, where and when she took her first English class. I am 10 or 11 at that time, only knew the words my sister repeated in our house for honor, but these words were completely new and interesting to a little girl surrounded by the other language-her mother language all the time. Yes, I could speak “sugar”(with the same pronunciation of my aunt’s Chinese name) loudly as a risk which was full of fun in spite of my aunt’s blame; I could tell my classmates that it was a “toothbrush” used when they brush the teeth, which meant you were “a man of erudition”, and that feeling was good; I also could make my life in a different way, because I could say ”thank you” in stead of “xie xie” when the elders helped me; which would give them a big surprise, just like when my neighbor came to our house… It’s interesting and the fun it gave to us was more than any other new Chinese noun in my life. Yes, interest is my English teacher before I went to my middle school.
1999, I went to my middle school, where English was one of the most important three courses in my study, and I was told that if I could get a high score in English, it would be very helpful to send me to a good senior high school and then a good university. A sense of responsibility for learning English well came to me, my teacher changed to be a press to get a good English grade. It can not be denied that interest still existed in my little heart then and did do me a big favor in my English study.
After going in to the dreamt high middle school, millions of exams, tests and exercises came to me. Many classmates recited English words in every tiny moment and did lots of problem sets of English, and over press made English a huge mountain to climb but not interesting any more. Oh , it’s a not a good feeling.
Then in university, as a course possessing quite a lot credit, English continued to oppressing us, and maybe I have been accustomed to be suppressed with learning English. My English is poor now if there is a English exam or quiz now. You also can see the simple words and expression all through my comment. However, it should not be an excuse for my indolence in English study and my life, and maybe I should find my interest back, find the novelty back, find the love of life back! Holistic English! Go into action!

But the truth you don’t use English is just because you don’t use it, not because it is not important, you can get a lot of chance in your future career and some information that can’t get in Chinese if you learn English well.
Many classmates feel the same with me. But they still have difficulty to improve English. My English is also not very good. I think the reason is that we don’t speak it out, English is a kind of language, we need to use it often. Some of students think their English is not good and feel shy to speak English, they are afraid to make mistakes.
Learning English also need a good circumstance, sometimes we need to be pushed by someone because it is hard to change. We have good teachers this semester, and I hope I can change myself and improve my English.
So far,i have study english for more than 12 years,but my english speaking ability is still in low level.Once i get nervous ,i even can’t say a word.It is unbelievable,isn’t it?
Because i haven’t take it serious,i haven’t my personal english enviroment.So from the lecture last night,i learn a lot of methos to change my enviroment by my own choice,like changing my OS && mobile phone && homepage language to english,seeing more english movie without any chinese subtitle,reading more english book, writing more and speaking more to real people.I must improve my comprehension and express ability.No any excuse.
I think that all of us want to make our english better.So we should help each other more in making our english enviroment.
English was just one of the subjects I shoud learn and pass the exams formerly. But after I went to colledge,I realize that English is so important for us to find a good job when we graduate. For many times,I thought I should to pratice English perfect,and I asked my friends to practise English with me. But we gave up at the end,because we felt painful to have coversation in English.It was tough to make us understandable. We felt confertable to talk in Chinest.So we gave up! I feel ashamed of it.
After taking Martin’s lecture,I have a deep thinking.What’s wrong with me befor?I think the problem is that I “practice” English. There is no environment for me to take English a basic tool to have conversation with others.All the people around me speak Chinese!
I hope that we can do our best together to create an English environment for us in this semester.And I hope that I can think in English when I speak English in English after this semester.
I have rarely spent time learning English since College English test band 6.I ask myself: what’s the purpose of my English study, for the test or further life? What I have learned is returned to teachers and others. That makes me regrettable.
I remember that when I was in grade two in senior high school, the head-teacher of the class called me to her office and asked me why I got a so low marks on mathematics text. I felt blushing and had not find a reasonable excuse to explain so I lied I spent an abundance time studying English without any consideration. In the following days I had to take the consequences so I really devoted myself to listen, read, speak and write English. My closed friend amazed why I was so crazy. I said nothing because I didn’t want to the head-teacher of the class considered me as a liar, just so simple. At the end of the term, I won first place in final English text beyond everyone’s expectation expect me. I know you can achieve the goal which it means great importance to you.
“English is money” I agree with that. What’ more , English means respect, English is love. When we have children we can teach them at a proper period. English brings great benefit for next generation in a sense.
Keep moving! Never give up!
Most of us have learned English for ten years, what have we learned? After these years, I only barely deal with the exams questions, I only write sentences for exam writing, I still feel tense when I’m asked to express myself in English. I never feel that I’m interesting in it, it’s a burden for me like other subjects. So I never contacted it by voluntary. Yes, I accept that it’s useful when I talked to foreign friends, listened to English song or watched American movies. It’s a significant tool for me to study further in my academic research and application to learning abroad. I studied it and never felt like it. Maybe, the first thing I must choose is my attitude to English. In the meaning time, building my confidence to open my mouth for my fear of speaking English with an accent.
My story about study english is a not very happy.Just like the first case,I hate study english since I was 11 years old but I must study it ,otherwise I can’t enter a good university. Therefore I study english just when I must participate an eaxm,just CET-4,CET-6,etc.So my english is very poor now,I can’t follow it when somebody said english,I can’t say what I want to express,I’m afraid of lose face,too.I hope this semester I will enter a world full of english ,speak more ,listen more,wright more and read more and then come communicate with others in english freely.
Honestly speaking, I’m not confident about my oral English, so when I entered Mr Wolff’s classroom for the first time, I felt nervous and could hear my heart beating like a drum. Actually, I have learned English for more than ten years, but up to the prensent, I am not able to use it to communicate with others freely. As Mr Wolff said in the lecture on Friday, English in China is for examinations. Take me for example, after I passed the CET-6 three years ago, I haven’t make any progress in my English learning. What’s worse, I do it less well than before.
However, I like English. Although my major is Chinese Ancient Literature, which seems like have nothing to do with English, I still really hope that I can make it better, for communication, for enjoying the English movies and songs I like, but not for examinaions.
Speaking of my view towards the further English study, I see it as a long way to go. English study is everlasting, living-like process which is of great importance in our life. When someone lack of practice for fairly a short time or are not take it seriously, he or she may probably cannot make himself or herself understood during the course communicating with overseas friends. That may means a lost concerning broaden eyes scope and promising opportunities.
Just immerse myself in English learning, that is what I would like to do in the future.
My dear professor, Frankly speaking, you are my first foreign teacher. Avtually, I am looking forwad a foreign teacher all the time, now my dream come true, I feel so lucky, especially after the first lesson and the speach last night of you, I think I will chesh the time with you and will try my best to follow you in order to make my oral Enlish better. It is right that Enlish is quite important as a tool of cimmunication, just as you have said, it is necessary for one who wants to get a beter job and get a high sallary. So, from now on, I will create my own environment of soeaking Enlish, though it maybe a little hard as I have never done before, I think I will make progress in the near future with your help. Maybe oral English is till the supreme problem to our chinese student. But I blieve that practice makes perfect. The English Corner is hold at the center gloriette(people used to call it “xinting”) in our university every wednesday. Now I have been there twice continuously and made up my mind to go there every week except emergency. Why not go there to practise our oral English together ? ^_^
Firstly,thank you very much for the wonderful lecture last night.English,when somebody refers to it,I feel excited.I love English.I like studying English.To me,English is not just simply a communication tool.It is a life ,a life you can enjoy and relax yourself completely. When I communicate with foreigners in English, I broaden my eyes.When I see Europe and the United States film,I feel they are so smart with Teana-like sound that I hope I can become one of them that can speak English fluently.Studying Enlish ,broadly speaking,is hard,but happy as well.I will keep my whole passion to study it,to love it.
I always dream that I can speak fluent English and exchange with the foreingers freely.What a pity!Have learned English for nearly 13 years,my English is still remains at a very low level.Slowly,I began to fear to speak English, even want to give it up.Yes, it is my choice.I chooce to give up my chance to live better.

Learning a foreign language is one of the most difficult yet the most rewarding experiences of my life. Although at times learning English was frustrating , it was well worth the effort .The best way to learn English well， I think， is to learn and use English all the time. Don’t be afraid of being laughed at. We’d better do a lot of listening， speaking， reading and writing. If you can form the habit of thinking and writing in English all day， you are sure to grasp the spirit of English and will be able to read works in English within a short period of time.Only in this way that I suggest， can we learn English well. So I think this is the best way.
When I was a junior high school student, I was learning the English language is full of interest. But when I became a high school student, the purpose of learning English becomes to get high scores. Nothing more, I do not know why we must study it. I also have no thought to communicate with others. To the universities, we only know to enjoy a beautiful youth, learning English is really give up. In order to pass the Graduate Management Admission Test, I learned the English again about six months. Now I am a SUN YET-SEN UNIVERSITY graduate student. We have also continued to learn English, perhaps six months or a year later, we will lost it in somewhere. This is the way how Chinese students to learn English. What a pity! In my opinion, the most important to learn English is the perseverance. I know that, but I am just a speaker. My English is very poor, I hope it will get better this semester.
I am not interested in studying English.Maybe because I haven’t made any progresses in it.In fact I was very fond in it at the first stage of English study.I remenber I was deeply involved in the role playing games in English class.But as time passes by the passion faded away from me and I was even afraid of those games.Firstly I can not be fully prepared. Secondly I thougt it was not real,and it was just a game,not the real life.I doubted whether those conversations in the games or in the books would happan in the evryday life.Now I know whatever I say in Englilsh would improve my spoken English.”Chenglish is good.”It was my first time I heard that and it makes me happy.I have experienced the most embarrassed moment speaking in English and I don’t think there will be any more embarrassed moments,so I think I can make it too.
From two years ago, I have read much more English books than Chinese ones and much much more English net pages than Chinese ones. That’s a choice easy to make for a Chinese student who intended to improve their English because that’s the choice s/he can make by herself/himself.
But though I do want to make another choice to improve my oral English, the environment is lacking. Building such an environment in our daily life must have a group of Chinese students to make their choices all together. And that would be a day dream for my dorm. So I would appreciate all the chances to speak English or Chinglish in this funny class.
Frankly to say,I definitely kown thar English studing is important to our career development .However, during the past ten years ,I just can read english not use english.i just can pass all english examnations ,but can not conmunicate with others in english .it makes me frustration. .Just as you say ,we lack the english study enviroment .however , I never take part in some kind of oral english pratice initiative. I afraid of lose face and make mistake .and also I afraid people laugh at me can not press my opinion freely in english even if I have study english for ten years .so in the semester ,I will try to grab every chance to pratice english , to use english and to prove my english

To me, first, English is a tool, through which I can talk, listen and read; second, learning English is also the way to know western culture. I can read English newspaper, magazines, and books and watch TV programs. So I will get more information about the world. It helps me to renew and improve my attitude towards the world.
So I hope my English can become more useful in the future. I hope it will help me to know more about and communicate more with the world, not only using it to pass an exam.
