A classic movie making numerous points that remain valid today.
First impressions are not always valid.
A rush to judgment can result in an injustice.
Analise all the facts carefully and do not jump to conclusions.
Listen to the opinions of others.
The power of persuasion is dynamic.
Judge as you would be judged.
Humans are fallible.
There is no perfect judicial system because there are no perfect men or women.

Though it is a classic movie, it still has something to do with us today. The movie tells the story about a man who convinces all the other 11 angry men on the innocence of the boy. According to the evidence given in the court, the 11 angry men make their first impression that the boy is guilty, while the only one left doesn’t believe that. However, it is that only man left who changes the opinion of the other 11 men. Also, it is that only man left who uses his logical thinking and analyze all the facts carefully. What makes him to do such things? I think it is the human nature. He just supposes he himself to be the boy awaiting the trial and would like to give him a just verdict.
That’s what we should do today—— never judge a person by your first impression and make a impulsive decision.
A society with justice shall guarantee those people who are in the disadvantaged or less favored position more legal rights in the most possibilities, which I call “care for the weak” principle. And laws provide people such kind of platform to justify and defend for their own rights, while ethnics give more advice when people doing the decisions and evaluations. In the movie, what the twelve jury do is to dig out the truth and prove whether the 18-year-old slum boy guilty or not. The main issue of this case is that not everything is as it seems. It is a tough process to reach a final agreement of the jury. With further analysis, the understanding of a situation becomes more concrete enabling the men to make a solid decision that affects that young man’s life. He is proved innocent and wins back fairness and justice which he deserves. Also, these insistent 12 men all have a better understanding of their duty and responsibility as a jury member. Their deliberation responsibilities are definitely commendable. In short, 12 Angry Men is a classic film that should not be missed.
This movie is an excellent and very different film, whose scene is drab with only one scene (I think the film won’t be effected if cut off begin and end scenes). It’s an intriguing and moving story that happens in a small room attracts audiences to watch. I appreciate the movie with simple scene and incisive content.
I admire the righteous engineer who doesn’t sure that the suspect is guilty and feels that there are some questionable points. The twelve jurors have their own professions and lives. Among them, there are eloquent advertiser, shallow noble man, irritable old policeman, clever banker. Everyone has his own way of thinking and talking and their own inner are contradictory. Other people are indifferent to the case except the engineer. Twelve men crowds in the little room in the hot summer and the scene is very lively, debating fiercely, even raising their arms. In the film, most jurors are thinking about their position repeatedly and struggling with themselves. At last, they know how they should exercise their own sacred rights.
The movie gives me more intuitive understanding of the meaning and value of the jury.
Rushing to make a judgement will always lead to pitfalls. It is jury duty to take job seriously and think twice before having a verdict. Similarly, in our daily life when we confront with misunderstanding with some people ,we need to be rational to make a judgement toward them. Meanwhile, whether someone is wrong or right, others have no right to assert. Because what can prove is only evidence. Here I want to say , evidence is really speak louder than words. In the movie, there was one person dare to state own opinion at first whether it was right or not. Eventually, he won all other jurors. It also can give us a lesson that we should express our own opinion bravely for what we say may be the truth. Otherwise, others will never know the truth forever. In the end, i want to say justice always can win.
The simple plot revolves around 12 men as jurors to deliberate on questions of guilt after hearing evidence in the hot afternoon–guilty or not guilty,to be or not to be,live or die!
12 angry men have very distinct personalities that the visitor won’t soon forget. From their discussion we know the ins and outs of the case. The process reflects 12 different kinds of values. The film’s theme is to the critical social realities and humanity.
From the movie, I learned something about the judicial system in America. There are 12 people who are all normal people who may even do not have anything to do with the law system. If one of them vetoes a decision, they’ll have to look into it further. They have to discuss and discuss until they agree with each other. So that one person can change the whole decision. And the protagonist was so smart that his eloquence conquered one after another. And I also learned to not to jump into conclusions and make up my own assumption. The boy in the movie grew up in some slum, that didn’t mean he was bad enough to kill his farther. We can not judge someone guilty until we have solid evidence. And this can apply to our daily life, like we may think twice before we make any decisions or make any judgments.
From 1 vs 11 to 12 vs 0, it’s a dramatic movie and no doubt is a classic.
From the very beginning, I think it is an impossible task for 1 to persuade other 11 to change their minds, if I were him, maybe I will choose to go with the main stream, so called Chinese people’s middle-way.
I highly admire the only guy who insists on to hold the justice towards the child. Actually the movie gives me a light that we don’t have to prove the children that he doesn’t make the crime, we only can not make sure whether that child does the crime.
As the time goes by, some valid evidence are overthrown, 11 other people begin to doubt about their own judgement. In everyone’s mind, I see the responsibility to that child’s life. I have a great respect for their love and respect for a person’s life.
There is an angry man in the movie saying that the system of the jury is the most sacred terms in American judiciary, maybe it is why American is so powerful. This sentence leaves a deep impression.
Maybe the human nature in their deepest heart is also an important reason.
After watching this movie, I do realize that one man can make a difference. However, it doesn’t mean that everyone can make a big difference unless the person can stick on his/her judgment or values to the end. Moreover, the person should be patient enough to wait for the opportunity and skillful in leading and persuading others to accept his/her opinions on certain thing. Besides, from the movie I learned that the American Jury System which will choose 12 jurors and 12 backup jurors from American citizens who are over 18 year-old is totally different from the one in China.
I absolutely agree with you that one person can make a difference. However, persistence comes first. As long as one sticks on something he wants to achieve, he will have the possibility to succeed.
I have also learned that law has basic logical and systimatic rules, while people can use them to persuade or even convince the majority who are in opposite position.
To me, what I have learned from the 12 Angry Men is very simple. Firstly, never give up to something that is right. If the only man that insists the criminal is innocent gives up to the other 11 men, then the innocent criminal will be dead. Thanks to him and also because of the American penal policy, the jury finally makes the right decision. Secondly, like I have mentioned, is the jury system. It’s very different from the Chinese jury. The jury they have the right to decided whether the criminal is guilty or not. And there are 12 people in a jury, which makes the judgment more humanize, for the final decision must agreed by all the 12 persons. Such kind of system seems much more reasonable.
I really like this movie, though it is a black-and-white one and the majority of the scene is the same room. I have to admit that Juror No.8 is a brave and honest man. He did not raise his hand as other 11 jurors did. He dared to stand against a seemingly obvious fact. Because at first, he himself didn’t know why he choose to believe that poor boy. He just felt that he should take responsible for deciding the case and respect every life. He would not jump to a conclusion and easily take one’s life, like other 11 men did. He was an architect and had no relation with that boy. But still, he take this job seriously. I think even if he could not change the court decision, he should be honoured. Legal workers should have that spirit because it concerns innocent people’s life and freedom. Nonetheless, every one should learn from him and take our job seriously and be responsible.
From this movie, I have learned something.
First, I learn that we should not take anything for granted. In the movie, because the boy a black people who is always beaten by his father has very bad record, even he quarrels with his father before the father’s death, eleven jurymen take the boy’s killing his father for granted. At last through debate the conclusion is reversed. So we should see through the appearance to perceive the essence, and never take things for granted.
Second, I realize that we should believe in ourselves and trust that one person can make difference. Like the juryman eight, he is the only person who holds different opinion towards this case and wants discussion in the beginning. Under his insistence, finally, he proves that his stance is right, convinces the others to believe his opinion and overturns the premier decision.
I thought the movie was boring when I haven’t watched, but it turned out that my thought was totally wrong at last.
The thing I have learned from this movie is that if you think you do the right thing, then just stick to it even if there are hundreds of people oppose to your opinion.
In 12 Angry MEN, when the other 11 jurors all think that the boy is guilt, the juror No.8 insists on the boy is innocent, and raises his doubt about this murder case. He uses some strong evidences to persuade other jurors believe the boy is unguilty step by step. And finally all of the jurors agree No.8’s opinion. And another man in the movie I respect is the one who just could not persuade himself to believe that the boy is innocent because he is puzzled by the woman’s words—“I saw the boy killed his father”. He don’t believe No.8’s words, he only believes the fact. At last the old man helps him to dispel the doubt, and he finally could accept the truth that the boy is unguilty. It highlights the importance of sticking to your own opinion again!
This movie is quite interesting and dramatic. The whole movie takes place in a small room, discussing whether the boy is guilty or not. I have learnt several things in this movie. First of all, we should stick to our own opinion if it has enough reasons to believe. At the beginning of the movie, only one guy believes that boy is innocent. Maybe some others are not sure about this, but they follow the majority in case of being despised. Thanks to our hero, he keeps telling others the possible situations and finally persuades all the others into believeing the boy is innocent. Secondly, we should respect and attach importance to every life. In this movie, one man wants to go home to watch the football game soon, so he is very angry when the hero insists on his ideas. Actually, I was pretty angry at that time, for his rudeness and hasty decesion for such a stupid reason! We should always respect any life, no matter it is poor or rich, pretty or ugly… Without the hero’s efforts, an innocent life would be sacrificed. Thirdly, everyone can make a difference, which is quite an obvious point in this movie. But only when we first believe in ourselves can we make others to support us. Last but not the least, exchanging ideas with others is no bad. Through such kind of communication, we can benefit a lot. For instance, we can absorb others’ opinions and learn from them. What’s more, negotiation skills can also be practiced.
In the movie of “Twelve Angry Men”, I begin to get familiar with American Trial System. Twelve jurymen argue about the case from their own understandings. They don’t know the criminals and even don’t meet before, so they can be objective. In this movie, I understand one man can make a difference. 1 against 11, but finally he persuades all of others. Actually, there are many loopholes in this matter, but many of them just neglect it and want to finish it as soon as possible because of their own businesses. But they don’t make mistakes finally by taking consideration of many facts and trials. From this movie, I know there is also some weaknesses in the American Trial System. If the only one man doesn’t take another consideration, what will happen? It can be the death of the innocent young boy. So twelve ordinary people who don’t have any knowledge on law and aren’t responsible for their decision must be a scary combination. Before choosing juryman, it must be have a legal knowledge test. Of course, it is only my advice.
I like the movie 12 Angry Men since it is a classic film that should not be missed. And I learned two main points from this movie.
Firstly, one person can make differences. When we have questions towards something or have different opinions from others’, we should stick to our own idea and cannot change according to changing circumstances. To judge a person guilty or not guilty depends on clues and evidence, we cannot believe in others’ statements or comments easily. Moreover, reasonable analysis is necessary to be a juror and everyone from all walks of life. If you think your opinion is right, you should state your own support idea and put forward your doubts by reasonable analysis to make others convince you.
Secondly, I learned why the United States of America is so strong, powerful and influential throughout the world. 12 men from different jobs and classes have the right to determine a person guilty or not guilty. That is to say, they can decide someone’s life and death. USA gives the right to his people and the country is indeed a democratic state. I think the real democracy is one of reasons why America is so strong.
I really agree with professor’s idea that one man can make a difference. From the movie, only one guy believed that the 18 years boy was innocent and he persuaded the other 11 memebers of the jury, finally he succeded. He made it possible from 1 to 11 and realized the value of the jury. It is a tough proceed to change people’s initial opinion which needs continuous efforts to make people stand at your side by using convincing evidence and words without any loopholes. Never look down upon yourself.
It is no grand for blame that everyone may put their own interest at first under rightness. But when we face unfair and even cannot be protected by law, we should use our own conscience to judge the whole thing. Keep the rightness in our mind.
12 Angry men gave me a deep impression on the judicial system of the United States. The twelve men came from all walks of American’s society without any legal knowledge. However, each of them had an honest heart and dares to show their own opinions. During the heated debate, only one man put forward the different idea, through his effort, he persuaded others to change their minds. In our daily life, we have to stick to our own opinion, but at the same time, we should listen to others’ ideas to make things perfect.
“12 angry men” shows that trials are often decided by juries in American which are actually chosen from common citizens. It’s their duty and right. So these juries have the right to judge a person guilty or not, but once they make a decision, they should take responsibility for this person’s rest life. However, juries are common people and they may make mistakes or some of them just don’t care. In conclusion, I think that this system also has some loopholes and is not so perfect. Maybe there should be a supervision system above this system to make sure the justice of the juries’ decision.
This is the most special film I’ve watched which almost entirely takes place in just one room, consists of 12 men who do nothing but talk. And even we don’t know the names of the characters.
The film gets to the core of the American judicial system, letting us know that justice and mercy can be found within the system. And also as Martin said in class, from the movie, we can learn that not everything is right. We should stick to our own mind or opinion if we think it is right.
It was a moive with simple plots. Twelve man were chosen as jurors to make a judgement on a case in which a boy is accused of killing his father. They had different backgrounds and jobs. Then twelve man with their views began the discussion. The case seemed quite clear because there were witnesses, so eleven of them thought the boy was guity except one architect who had sympathy for the boy. He took the case seriously and put forward his doubt to persuade other people. Other jurors were convinced one by one. And finally the boy were proved innocent. From the film I learned the American spirit and their law systems. The most impressive character was the architect who was stick to his opinion and tried with great efforts to save the boy.
The film 12 Angry Men seems very simple. But actually, it is not. Through the behavior and the dialogue, it presents 12 vivid characters with distinct feature. And it also shows various figures with such simple case and reflects the truth of the society. Of course, it also presents us the superior legal system in America and the democracy. If our decision is closely related to others’ death, we should be really prudent. It both respects others’ life and ours. In addition, our subjective assumption is related to our growth experience which affects us to judge properly. If we abandon the social status, bias and fame, we may have a clear and different view.
I do not know whether the Jury system is good or not. The purpose of the Jury system is good which can let people have more power. However, from the movie 12 Angry Men and the movie Runaway Jury we will find that sometimes the Jury will not treat the case so serious. It is lucky that in both movie there are some persons insist on their opinion and use evidence to convince others, but what if all the 12 people just want go home for a movie or for something they consider more important? I doubt the advantage of this policy.
I admire the hero in 12 Angry Men. Though the other 11 people are so sure that the boy is guilty at the first of the movie, he insists that they should discuss the case. Other people blame at him but he believes that life is important than other things and is worth people to spend time on the case. He has the intelligence in analysis and persuading, which is also the point we can learn. The most important lesson is that we should insist on what is right while at the same time, listen to others’ opinions.
I want to say something about the movie 12 Angry Men. After watching this movie, I was impressed by the man whose attitude was totally opposite to the other juries. Only he thought the boy was innocence, not guilty. I think as an ordinary person, most of us would follow the principal of majority rule and less of us will stand still and take heart of grace to speak out our reasonable doubt. A person against eleven persons, it was really difficult situation. So he needed to speak out his reasonable doubt and testify his guess, and then convinced the rest juries to believe his guess that was the buy was not guilty. Even at such bad environment, and more and more people felt they could not bear it, but some of them still followed their morality and continued to discuss. To such a person who they had never met before, but they all did their best.
I was deeply moved by the end of the movie when two of the jurors introduced themselves and then disappered in the crowd. They were ordinary people, but they did make a difference since they saved a boy’s life through their logical reasoning and life experience,as well we their noble humanity. Things were not always like what they appear to be, so it is necessary for us to develope a suspicious attitide towards the “common sence”. Though the Jury System in American is not perpect since humans are not perfect and it still needs a long way to go to improve it ,yet,it is rather advanced ,comparatively speaking, to other countries in the world and it sets a good example for us China .
I have learned a lot from 12 Angry Men. First and foremost, every one can make a difference. In the movie, 11 men thought the child was guilty at first, and only one man insisted that the child was probably not guilty. However, through a fierce debate, the man eventually changed the other 11 men’s attitude and made a big difference to the child. It tells us that one single person can make change. Never give up! Second, don’t rush to judgement, talk to other people first. We should be aware that conclusion must be drawn with strong evidence. Sharing opinions with others is of great importance. As we all know, different people usually hold different opinions towards the same issue. We need to listen to other people’s voice to check whether we ourselves have got the right point. Last but not the least, we can know an issue better by over thinking, careful observation and analysis.
When I first watched the film, it was a black and white movie, so I think it must be boring. But with the development of the plot, I found it is quite suspenseful, which is like a Stories of Sherlock Holmes. I am eager to know the truth that the boy is guilty or not guilty.
From the film, I had learned several things. Firstly, from the film I know there is a system called jury system in American’s legal system which is quiet new for our Chinese. But I think it is a special and useful system, which can reduce some erroneous judgments. Judgment from one people maybe has some limitations, which will lead some unjust, false or wrong cases. Jury system can afford it in some way. Secondly, we cannot draw a conclusion before we knew the truth. We can not judge others by his appearance, background or anything else. In the film, because the boy was from city slum, many of the jurors thought he was guilty. It is totally wrong. Thirdly, we cannot influence by others and we should hold our own views. In the film, 11 of the jurors vote “guilty”, but still a man did not influenced by others, however he hold the view that boy was “not guilty”. I think he is very brave because it is not easy to say his ideas which are quiet different from most people. Just because his persistence, all the jurors changed their vote to “not guilty.”

First, I’d like to say this is one of the most exciting movies that I have ever watched. The whole story happens just in a small jury room, while I quite enjoy myself in it and don’t feel bored at all.
I feel at some extent that a person’s life can be both strong and fragile. Just like the man who is charge of killing his father in the movie, his life is totally controlled by the twelve men; they can decide whether he is guilty or not. In the movie we can see first the voting result is 11 to 1 and the final result is 0 to 12. It is easy for the twelve men to make a vote, while the two different results give the man completely different destinies. Jury is not just an ordinary work—people present in the court and making the decision according to their own feelings and judgments. Instead, it is a fairly solemn group; it must find out the truth and make the justice.
Actually, watching the beginning of the film, I thought it was not the kind of film I like, because it was black-and-white with slow developing plot. But as I continued watching, I found myself wrong, I was totally attracted by it. And this move turned out to be both thought-provoking and instructive. I did learn something from it.
The first thing I have learned is that we should keep a suspicious mind to some certain maters, which seems wrong or right superficilly at first sight or we can say never rush to a conclution before careful analysis. And we should think over the matter in different position. Secondly, one person can make a difference. Just as what the movie has presented, one person with firm ground will finally get understood by others, influence them in an appropriate way and get support from them.
I didn’t know this movie before but I watched a Japanese drama whose theme was similar. Some ordinary people can control the life of a stranger. Different people have different attitude towards a case. Some make great efforts to concentrate on every aspects to consider the case, while some pay no attention to the process and just make the decision unconcernedly. The 12 men finally come to an agreement that the boy is not guilty. However, at first only juror No.8 insists that the boy is not guilty. The change presents the jury’s negotiation and justice to us. At last, still no one knows whether the boy is innocent or not, but the decision is made there. It may not be the fact but it is accepted by all jurors. The plot is dramatic but that may happen in our daily life. In addition, sticking to your own opinion is inportant. The juror No.8 shows his firmness throughout the movie and he does make a difference. It’s obviously a difficulty to persuade everyone, which needs enough evidences and adequate patience.
Finishing the 12 angry men, it is dawn to me that in certain occasion, emotion should be replaced by reason. The men who has judged that the boy is guilty fail to analyse the case carefully and reasonably .They jump to the conclusion out of their intuition and sensibility, which tend to make mistakes. Especially when people are endowed some kind of responsibility and their decision will affect others dramatically, insight and analysis is crucial.
This movie impresses me a lot and surprised me a lot. Eleven jurors believe the boy murders his father and want to make a conclusion as quick as possible, while only one juror wants to analyse and persuade that the boy is not guilty. And this discussion is very interesting, because they analyse the whole process and propose new conclusions. At last, the twelve men agreed that the boy is not guilty. From the movie, I learn that we can not judge one person or one thing by our first expression, especially as a juror. Secondly, we should be responsible for our duties, especially when it concerns others’ life. Thirdly, men make mistakes, but sometimes we just need to calm down and analyse the problem, which may avoid some mistakes. By the way, I also learn that juror is very important to some extent.
If we have doubts about something, we should try to remove our doubts and insist what we believe, especially when it relates to life, just as the only angry man did in this movie. There is no doubt that if the only angry did not insist his opinion, the little boy in this case will be judged guilty.Because other 11 angry men only looked at the evidences that witnesses provide without any doubts and analysis. As far as I can see, they are selfish and their attitude is very negative. If one are a member of jury, he/she should be responsible for his/her decision.Because his/her decision will influence another person’s life.
Before I watched this movie, I heard such words like these, “This movie is so boring!”, “It is just a movie about the arguing between 12 men!” To my surprise, when I really watched it in person, I thought this movie is so interesting. And it taught me a lot. I remember someone said that the truth is invariably grasped by the minorities. To everyone’s disappointment, this time it turns to be wrong. At the very beginning of the movie, just only one person in that small room believed the boy was not guilty. But after their carefully analyzing of all the facts, the eleven men changed their minds. And the boy was finally testified to be innocent. This told us that the first impression are not always valid, we must pay more attention to every details so that we can find the truth and judge things with justice.
The film 12 Angry Men talks about how one juror persuades the other eleven jurors to make right decisions together. He reverses the direction by himself and his convictive hypothesis and analysis. He upholds justice and finally changes the child’s life. It shows that one man also can make a difference.
What the 12 angry men face are the fact, truth and humanity. They can find the boy not guilty. However, it is a great responsibility to answer for the boy’s future. After fierce debates, they realized that judge is a serious thing. Just like the words in the film “we come, we see, we judge.” The law should be above all, but it will be different when the state of mind is above the law. In such a condition, they just consider how to save the boy’s present and future. Their “disrespect” for the law, however, is the top concern to the humanity.
12 Angry Men is the type of film that intellectual bleeding heart liberals will take to instantly, but is also a film that all Americans should respect. It gets to the core of the American judicial system, lending cinematic proof that justice and mercy can be found within the system. No finer drama about the nuts and bolts goings on inside a jury room has ever been filmed.I have learned 2 points:firstly,we should stick to our oppinion based on the facts despite the criticism from others.Secondly,it is unfair that we judge people by colored spectacles. From some jurors’ prejudices and Juror 3′s own idea that his son would kill him(it was established earlier in the film that Juror 3 had a bad relationship with his son),we can figure out these illusions have a bad effect on their judgements.
The film is really excellent. From the film I learn that when we need to make a solid decision which will effect someone’s life, we should do a lot of analyses and take everything into consideration. Moreover, 11 men think the boy is guilty expect one man, who turns out to be right. In our daily life, people are inclined to follow the majority’s idea. Even if they hold a different opinion, they seldom dare to declare and prove it. I reckon that sometimes “conformity”is really dangerous, because it kills the diversity and even truth. Thus, to think independently and to judge rationally really count a lot.
Yes.I agree with you .Watching movies have taught us a lot of thing ,such as something about the law ,the environment, and others. Also , discussing movies have given us a lot of chances to speak English. What’s more ,we have a good tiem when we discuss with other students. No matter what we have spoken, It does matter. We just think and coporate with each other, then express our opinions .
