English Movie Library

FREE CHOICE ENGLISH MOVIE LIBRARY

To facilitate autonomous learning strategies, the Sun Yat-sen University department of post-graduate English teaching for non-English majors has created an English movie library. All of the movies are English language with English or no subtitles. (There are absolutely no Chinese subtitles because they hinder English acquisition.)

The movies may only be accessed through campus computers, by students of the Holistic English Program and may not be downloaded.

All movies have been screened for compliance with Chinese law that prohibits excessive foul language, nudity or violence.

If you would like to see a movie added to the library, post your suggestion below.

I have to admit it is a good and useful way for us to perfect our english by watching english movies with english subtitles. But i just can’t follow it very well, so it’s a little hard for me. And it make me can’t enjoy the movies like before. I don’t know why, but i think maybe it’s going better as long as i can insist on.

At first,I think many of the movies are old,so I think them not attractive to me,but I find I am wrong. Every movie our teacher suggest us to see I always watch carefully, and I find every one is not just a story,it tell us many many things in truth , and we all learn many .I think every film our teacher suggest us to watch is of valuable, he want to teach us as many principles as he can ,not only the language .
When we leave school ,I will find what is more important we learn in school. I enjoy our teacher tell true story, because I can see successful example , and more confident to myself.

  • Ben_class18

  • Sherry class 13

I hanve learned a lot of knowledge from my oral English professor. His conception of teaching is different from our country’s education system. He advocates us to autonomous learning english and tells us not to cope with our homework. It is useless for us to learn knowledge.I very like this autonomous learning strategies.

  • Maxwell.5

I benefit a lot from the movie library. Firstly I do not have to pay for the movies which are carefully selected by our teacher. Secondly I always watch movies on the Internet, the Internet speed is very slow. So the English movie library save me a lot of time. I am extremely grateful to my teacher for his help.

  • Dennis Class5

    EDITOR’S NOTE:

USA TV IS FAKE, NOT REAL LIFE IN USA. FRIENDS AND SEX IN THE CITY ARE THE WORST. THEY GIVE A WRONG IMPRESSION OF LIFE IN USA.

When I wanted to download some English movies from internet before,I can seldom find some with only English subtitle. Most of them are with only Chinese subtitle or both Chinese and English subtitles. So thank you for supplying us so much conveniences to get this kind of movies. It will be much better if you can offer some American TV serials for us, for instance, friends etc.

  • Zoe class5

Thank you for putting so much English movies in the website. I can choose what I’m interested in to watch. I think watching English movies is a useful way to learn English and those movies without Chinese subtitles can help me improve my listening and comprehension.

  • Lizyclass1

After seeing so many movies this semester our professor recommended to us. I found all of them are based on the true stories. I like most of the stories, and they all impressed me very much. I have just see a movie today Hotel Rwanda, it told the history about the massacre in Rwanda in 1994. And also Gandhi, such films always make me brief and to think deeply about the human beings about the world. The true stories always make me feel it is real and very near to us, and my feeling is true. So I like them so much.
Thanks for our professor’s recommeding , they are really wonderful movies!

  • Ivyclass5

Thanks a lot. I apologized for leaving no thanks for the efforts who gave on this library before. And now I do.

  • Tom class15

This is the first time I see so many English movies, they are very good, excepting the part that the teacher ask us to watch, I will watch more once I have time. Thank you, you are so painstaking.

  • Eric class4

There are so many English film that we can continue our study of English even without English classes. They are the most important resources we should make good use of. And the list can save us a lot of time to choose the right movie for the English learning. Thank you!
