Problem and the Cause:
In the movie, the problem is the discordance between the two cultures. Besides lifestyle, women’s participation in business and the different etiquette, the two countries also don’t share the same enterprise/company/factory spirit. The Americans emphasize more on individuals while the Japanese see the team and the company as the most important. Thereby different enterprise spirit leads to different working attitudes, and arise much discordance between Americana and Japan staff in the movie.
Solution:
Though cultural difference is a big issue, I think people shouldn’t always always and always think about the differences between cultures. We should try to find what we have in common and understand each other better. Learn inter-culture communication is important. Two different cultures may combine their best part and avert the shortcomings to come up with a negotiation. In the end of the movie, it’s obvious that the six cars are all below standard, but the Japanese boss should count them into 15,000 cars. Why!? I think he is moved by something. He notices what he is familiar with in those American guys—collectivism, but it’s another type of UNITY, another type of loyalty to the company and another type of COLLECTIVISM, which contains more humanity and care than in the Japanese company culture.
Further Analysis and Examples:
America and Japan were the top two fastest countries to grow up to great power after WWII and they ran in two ways. Does it mean that individualism and collectivism can work out separately? I believe not. They cannot be divided, but only can be balanced. Losing one of them, a company will lose. In the beginning of the movie, the car factory is being closed. I think the American worker’s casual working attitude may be one of the major reasons that leads to the factories’ failure. Out of the movie, as we know, there were more than 11 employees from Fujitsu Company (Japan company in China)who commit suicide last year. Those were tragedies caused by neglect of individualism.
Problem:
American employees can not understand their Japanese employers’ way of operating the car factory. They are reluctant to follow the instructions of their Japanese boss. They want to work in their own way and get a raise in salary. On the other hand, the Japanese businessmen ask the American employees to work as hard as they can for the company’s interest. In their eyes, the only value of worker is work.
Cause:
The essence of the problem is the ideology difference between American people and Japanese people. In other words, the orientation that charaterizes the thinking of Americans is quite distinctive from that of the Japanese. American people advocate freedom and uniqueness. They attach great importance to individuals. However, Japanese people believe teamwork is crucial to the development of a company. They put more emphasis on absolute submission and high efficiency. They think everyone should put the interests of a group above their personal interests.
Solution:
American emlpoyees can try to be more cooperative and hardworking, while Japanese employers should care more about their employers’ personal interests, and be more humane. They should listen to their employees’ voices. In a word, American employees should learn to work as a group, and put the company’s interest in the first place. Japanese employers should run their business in a more flexible way, and pay attention to their employees’ needs and interests.

It is about the misunderstanding and conflict between the Japanese and American cultures.
Cause:
In Japan, it focuses on the value of the whole group(eg. the whole company’s profit), while in America, it’s absolutely different(eg. the individual’s benefit). Individualism is the core in western countries, especially in America. Thus, when these two extrems of value judgements mix together, it is natural that the misunderstanding and conflict between their cultures appear.
Solution:
“Respect each other, seek the common ground while putting aside differences.” This sentence is said by Zhou Enlai, who was first Prime Minister of People’s Republic China. It can be used here to solve this problem. Both of them should respect the advantages of their own value judgement and join together to profit more than a sole funded company.
The main problem happened in the movie is the culture difference in lifestyle and company spirit. The American workers think they should enjoy their life and they just take work as a way to afford family. However, the Japanese take their career as the top and care more about the interest of team instead of individual interest. Thus, we can see some conflicts in the movie. For example, American workers want to make the car in the way they like but Japanese insist that everyone should do in the same way.
I think the solution of this problem is to communication and find the common interest. Although the end of this movie is a little childish, we can still see that when the two group of people understand each other, they move the boss and get their job back.

It says that “(although the title of the film is actually an Americanized Chinese expression, for “work” and “together”)”.So I think it is a Chinese word in the class,not developed by American in the WWII.
Secondly,I learned that despite huge cultural difference between diffenent countries,as long as we respect each other,we can stay in peace together.
