LIFE AND DEBT

The World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization assist developing countries to share in the global economic pie.  ( This may just be the greatest lie ever told.)

The movie make me so angry. It reverses my established concept.Life and Debt is an unapologetic look at the “new world order,” from the point of view of Jamaican workers, farmers, government and policy officials who see the reality of globalization from the ground up.

frankly speanking, before i watch this movie ,i always thought entering the WTO is a exciting and benificial thing for our country, but it is not the same as i thought,we obtain much from it,but we also lose much in fact.the film is worth seeing.

Staying at WTO is not a good thing for China in the long term . It’s time to quit WTO when we get less benefit at the level . WTO’s core idea is not for the developing countries but for the interests of western countries .

In my opinion, nowadays WTO is more good than bad to china. As the time goes, the bad aspect will become more and more significant. The day china establishes its own trade organization is inevitable, the members of which may come from Asian-Pacific region, South America, Africa etc.

The World Bank’s official goal is the reduction of poverty;the objective of IMF is to promote international monetary cooperation, facilitate the expansion and balanced growth of international trade. But now I know they are all the tools of some private to obtain the biggest benefit.

After watching this movie, I think that WTO is not good for China in many aspects. For example, rate of RMB, policy of IMF and so on. In my opinion, when our country grows enough power, we will quit it and we can quit it.

The IMF through a permanent institution aim is to promote international monetary cooperation, international monetary problems for consultation and coordination provides methods; Through the expansion of international trade, and balanced development of member states to promote and maintain employment, etc. But IMF have good favoring the relationship between capitalist military dictators with U.S. and European companies. And, the IMF didn’t pay attention to democracy, human rights and labor rights and interests.

Firstiy, the developing countries will be unable to buy the products made of developed countries, the global market will be reduced. secondly ,The “north-south gap” is more and more big, the mean history of colonialism colonies and opposition will be in new representation. In the economic globalization situation, a poor countries surrounding region and the turmoil will cause global unrest.

This film gives me a good lesson. I know our country should stand on our own feet. Others’ help all need some pay back. I thought IMF is an origination like Red Cross, I thought IMF will help all the country around the world to have a stale and healthful economic before. I forgot that there is no free lunch. When you prepare to receive assistance from others, you should think about it. And we should do research by ourselves, and analyze by ourselves, too. Than have our own solution. Each man is the architect of his own fate!So if one complains about his life, his country, he should think what he has done for his life or his country.

After seeing the movie Life and Debt, I will not believe such lies that the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization will assist developing countries any more. Most industries in Jamaica are influenced badly by the United States. No job and no money, which is most Jamaican’s life. The world should do something to prevent such things happen.

In the movie, Jamaica had vast shantytowns, unemployment at depression levels;,and high rates of economic inequality, crime and drug abuse. The government met many conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund in return for much-needed loans. So did the “IMF” really perform it`s original aim? Absolutely not. What I laern from the lesson is that:” In modern World, you can`t recon on other countries or organizations toally, you must rely on yourself”.

Every coin has three sides. If joining in WTO and IMF can bring you more interests than loss, just stay in them, if not, just withdraw.

The International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and current globalization policies are made for the interest of developed countries. We must rely on ourselves to develop our economy.

I was shocked. In my opinion, IMF was a good organizations that dealing with the problems in poor countries. But it changed after I watched the movie. We need this kind of institutions. But it should not help poor countries in this way.

As far as I am concerned, if IMF wants to help the poor countries, it should not place any conditions on the aids. If not, it is not the rule help.

Some international organizations such as IMF , WB , and WTO are just like Wolf in sheep’s clothing. Behind of the grandstanding purpose there is always selfish side.

The most important thing I have learned was not in the movie but in the class. Our professor told us the history of the WTO and the current situation of relationship between our country and the WTO.

To be honest, I cannot get what the movie shows very clearly without the subtitles. The life in Jamaica is too hard, the native people live in poor houses, but the tourists can have a happy experience. The hard working of native people may be only for the people in some developed countries; IMF and World Bank also have done something bad to the country. The poor country is always the victim in the world; they cannot protect their own interests very well.

The film makes me confirm that developed countries do not want to help developing countries, and sometimes it’s better to do things by oneself without the conditional help from others. Professor’s speech is wonderful and as to the North Korea people, I guess they cry for the former leader not because they want, but they have to. And there’s a joke saying Kim Jong Il’s last words for North Korean people is “Stay hungry, stay foolish”. Wishes for all!

As far as I am concerned, this documentary successfully showed us the recession of the economic condition of Jamaica. I thought IMF is an origination like Red Cross, which helps each country around the world to make a stale healthy and rich. IMF, World Bank or other organizations didn’t treat equally to the well-developed countries and the third-world countries. Therefore, we should try our best to change the situation, making it better, equal and peaceful.

This is a good movie about a developing country and the IMF.I learns something related to world currency organizations. They are different from what I had thought in my mind. I feel that I am a little innocent and ignorant. But I am lucky that my teacher teaches me to think about them. I believe that sometimes the WBG and the IMF have been used by some countries unfairly. The world needs fair organizations and it needs many countries to make contribution to their construction. As a college student, one shouldn’t give up the hope to improve them better.

As a post graduate student, I feel ashamed about myself, since I have no idea of IMF and WB. We are occupied with our perquisites class ignoring the outside world and our country’s policy. How we become our nations master if we have no idea about our nation. It is the time to extend our span of knowledge. You know what, what I have gained from the course is that we should have a wide horizon not only limited on the text book.
